Interesting article in
the Scotsman today about UK soldiers maybe, maybe not heading to Afghanistan.
This, though, was priceless:
It took months of wrangling to persuade other NATO members to agree to supply troops. But one senior officer described the efforts of coalition partners as "shambolic", accusing the Dutch government of demanding United States military protection for its troops before agreeing to send them.
I feel bad for our cousins in the UK. Socialism and multi-culturalism have turned the men into women and the country is in such bad shape they might as well be part of the European Continent.

Did you see the interview with the family that put up the Killer Santa display in their front yard? They looked like fools. The judge questioned them like they were defendants in one of his courts.
The father was a coward and did not show. Only the mother and daughter showed up. They said it will stay up until Christmas is over.

Carolina, that is an excellent Blankley column. He's a good writer...
Jemian, thanks for that report...I don't watch R & R anymore, but listen to Bennett instead. Very interesting on those doggie qualities
Back later!

Let me understand this. The dutch troops are so wussy that they need us to protect them? I thought that an army.... Next they'll be asking us to wipe their noses for them.

Very interesting that the original NYT story was based on ONLY ONE UNNAMED SOURCE. They'll stoop to anything to undermine the success this election....further verifying the FACT that the "Grey Lady" is no lady.

LOL! I read that and my jaw dropped. "Shambolic" indeed!
Apparently the Dutch soldiers also refer to their commanding officers as "Mommy" and have to carry their single bullet in their shirt pocket. ;-)

Using one unnamed source was a mistake I made once. I was working for a small mom-and-pop newspaper. Remember, I wasn't trained as a reporter but even so I knew better. One day I was sent to interview our rep to the state house in MonkeyTown about the recent legislative session. I had not been paying attention and so really wasn't prepared. He saw this and saw an opportunity to string me along with a false story. I feel for it. He told me I couldn't name him as the source but gave me this song-and-dance about a company which would be moving into the area. The kicker was this company built trolley cars!!!!
I feel for it and convinced my editor to print a small blurb about the company. To teach me a lesson, the editor ran it on the front page and under my by-line. That was well over ten years ago. It still hurts. I imagine that I was laughed about in quite a few bull sessions later.
It is also a mistake I NEVER made again. The NYT does not show the same professionalism as Larry O. Glass, the editor of The North Jackson Progress.

"Shambolic".......a new and useful word is born! I like it!

I was going to say "wipe their bottoms for them" but felt it might be too graphic for our family thread. LOL!

Did anyone else hear that? The weatherman on Fox just told their DC reporter to "stay warm. Snuggle up to somebody. Watch out for Helen Thomas."
I wonder how nice a laptop I can get Fox to buy me?

You and your editor would have been justified in not just apologizing for the error but publically exposing the culprit's name. The contract you had w/him about not naming him was broken by HIM when he fed you a fake story.
You learned a valuable lesson which is still standing you in good stead.
To: Jemian
WhooBoy! I didn't hear it, but.....LOL (I just know they lurk here at FR, don't you?)
To: Jemian
I heard the Helen Thomas comment.
Brian is on a mission this morning. Even E.D. jumped in to scorn the dude who is whining about the crosses erected to make the spot where peace officers have died in the line of work.
The Dog Spit thing is interesting. Did you hear the comment about dog spit being an excellent treatment for diaper rash? Oh My! The Vision. Much as I love my gc, I would never ask their poochies to lick their bottoms, altho both families have Labs as 4 legged family members, so it's entirely possible the furry family member would comply if asked.
To: Iowa Granny
I suspect the dogs wouldn't have to be asked. My dogs, especially Tippy who missed his calling as a nurse, would start licking any scratch or sore. I learned that if I didn't want to be licked to death to keep wounds covered. Maybe that is what helped my wounds heal faster.

That same "dude" made this riculous statement: (paraphrasing)"Putting up crosses there would intrude upon the freedom of practicing the diversity of religion."

Fantastic links, Molly! I'm so glad we have Blankley on our side; he is SUCH a genius! (Actually, I'm grateful for the whole slew of conservative luminaries, who are too numerous to mention here. Haven't you noticed that we have, or are getting, ALL the smart ones, while the left gets the throwback dullards? LOL!)

What is it with this fear of seeing a cross? Are these people vampires or what? I don't get it.
If I were in Israel I would expect to see a lot of Stars of David, and maybe a Cross here and there. WHAT is so terrible about a Cross?
