DiMaggio Family: Marilyn and Joe Planned to Remarry on Day That Turned Out to be Her Funeral

Nov. 4, 2005— A report in the December issue of Playboy reveals new details about the life of the legendary Marilyn Monroe and raises even more questions about her mysterious death in 1962.

Playboy contributor Lisa DePaulo talked exclusively to June DiMaggio, close friend of Monroe and niece of Monroe's ex-husband, Yankee legend Joe DiMaggio. June and other DiMaggio friends talked openly about a last-minute second wedding allegedly planned by Monroe and DiMaggio, and Monroe's last night alive.

The article also features uncensored and expanded transcripts of audio tapes of Monroe's psychotherapy sessions. The tapes, which were detailed in part by the Los Angeles Times in August, reveal for the first time, in Monroe's own words, that the actress was not suicidal at the time of her death.

"Here is a person stigmatized by the diagnosis of suicide when that is an absolutely wrong, false, erroneous diagnosis," said former L.A. County prosecutor John Miner Miner, who created the transcripts.

Miner was present at Monroe's post-mortem examination. While he does not dispute that she died of an overdose of the addictive sleep aid Nembutal, he has posed the theory it was used as part of an enema, administered by Monroe herself or by someone else while she was sedated.

DiMaggio Family: Monroe Not Alone When She Died

Members of the DiMaggio family have long believed Monroe was not alone when she died. June DiMaggio says her mother, Lee, told her she was the last person to speak to Monroe on the night of Aug. 4, 1962.

Lee, who has since died, said she was on the phone with Monroe when Monroe screamed a name and dropped the phone. Lee took that name to the grave because she feared for the safety of her family, according to June.

June said Los Angeles police came to her door at 11 p.m. the night of Monroe's death, looking for her uncle, Joe, and informing her of the actress's passing. Official reports say that Monroe's housekeeper didn't call police until 4:30 a.m. on Aug. 5.

The DiMaggio family also told DePaulo that Monroe and Joe DiMaggio had planned to remarry on the day that turned out to be her funeral. Monroe had a dress and already picked out her china dishes. DiMaggio had a ring for her and there was talk that they might adopt a child.

"If she was remarrying Joe DiMaggio, the love of her life, is she going to take her life four days before?" DePaulo asked on "Good Morning America" today

Monroe had only been living in her home for five months when she died, and DePaulo said every room was bugged, including the bathroom.

"The allegation is that the FBI and CIA bugged the house," DePaulo said. "If that's true, if that was the source of the bugs, absolutely there are tapes. Where are they?"

Re: the photo...

"Two hours later [after singing "Happy Birthday" to JFK in Madison Square Garden], Monroe made her entrance at a party given by theater magnate Arthur Krim. After an hour, President Kennedy pulled the actress away from the other guests and into a corner, where they were soon joined by Robert Kennedy. The three stood talking for approximately 15 minutes."

"Later the Attorney General appeared uneasy as White House journalist Merriman Smith chatted with Monroe while writing in a small notebook. When Bobby was informed by a Secret Service agent that a candid photo had been taken of Marilyn and the Kennedy brothers, his face grew stormy."

My own conspiracy theory? Ok, now is when you all think I'm crazy. LOL!! But I'd say all three were murdered by communists.

Bobby had worked with, what was his name? Was it McCarthy? Who had tried to ferret out the communists in this country. Especially in Follywood. Marilyn Monroe, IMHO because of here acting career, and her beauty could get into the bedrooms and find out secrets of all the men in follywood. Or anywhere else for that matter. I believe she was working undercover for the gov. No pun intended.

JFK had been going head to head with the communist leaders Castro especially. All three end up dead.

Ok, tin foil hat off now LOL!!

Caution: there's a send-up of right-wing militias, but it's very funny, and the whole thing is terrific. Paranoia squared. Better than the Manchurian Candidate.

If Marilyn was murdered, it is almost certain that her murderers (without mentioning any names) recieved a death sentence.

Indeed. And it was carried out in a street in Dallas and a hotel basement in Los Angeles.

I bet Teddy killed her.

If you were a Kennedy family plotter, would you trust any mission of importance to your stupid and incompetent little brother?

The Kennedys were very close to the Mafia because of their father's old connections. Sam Giancana in particular, as I recall.

Sam Giancana was also the inspiration for the horse's head scene in the Godfather film, Giancana Vegas casino money having partially financed several of the early films in which Marilyn appeared after her contract with Fox Studios was not renewed in August 1947. Then, in December of 1950, she got a new contract with Fox....

No way was Bobby Kennedy, or any other "name" in the house that night. This type of hit occurs via murder for hire. Appearing personally would occur only if the murder was heat of the moment, which normally means a fight. No evidence that I am aware of. To clarify, I believe she was murdered, but the people behind it were not in the house that night, regardless of what Ms. DiMaggio stated.

John Roselli, who had been ordered to remove himself from Chicago to L.A. by Al Capone in 1925 following a federal narcotics arrest, was generally thought by most of the Chicago newspapermen with whom I worked, to have been in charge of the crew that visited Marilyn that evening. You'll get arguments, but the rationale seems to have been to have been to discredit Bobby Kennedy, Marilyn's phone having been wiretapped by Hollywood P.I. Fred Otash and her room having been bugged by Jimmy Hoffa's wireman, Bernie Spindel.

Why was Marilyn so important that the mob killed her? She seemed to be an unlikely threat.

Disclosure of Marilyn's reputed abortion of a Kennedy child in 1962 [one of a dozen or so along her career path] might have proved a bit difficult for Kennedy's 1964 reelection attempts, particularly if the revelation left JFK in the wake of a divorce from Jackie.

Think Chicago Outfit boss Tony Accardo rather than *Sam Flood* Giancana as the real voice calling the shots so far as the West Coast operations went, up to around 1962 or so. But there was almost certainly a Hoffa connection, and the hatred of Miami mob boss Carlos Marcello for the Kennedys, particularly Bobby, was both personal and legendary, and for good reason.

whats up doc?!*ping

Oh. you wascally wabbit! But think Columbia Pictures and their then-president Harry Cohn, rather than Warner, at least so far as Marilyn is involved. And though her career with Fox was a stormy one with firings and contract non-renewals, she kept coming backto them like a bad penny.

Why was Marilyn so important that the mob killed her? She seemed to be an unlikely threat.

According to the book, she hung out with Giancana and other mob guys, and knew too much, particularly about joint CIA/mob activities. When she became distraught over the Kennedys and began to talk too much, it became necessary to remove her. Btw, the page numbers given are for the paperback version.
