Moving Day......aahhh yes. Are the scouts out looking for our new digs? The digs are found, the inter-thread translation engines have been revved up, and the initial coordinates are entered into the navigation systems. All that's needed now is the "go" word, a final check and adjustment of the target coordinates, a walk down through the checklist to be sure everything is set up properly, a throw of the switch... and we'll be there before you even know it.

I'm good any time, but I think we might miss a lot of folks if we do it tonight. They're not too likely to miss an event such as this...

Exactly, he did nothing when our embassies were bombed in Africa.

It served for a good and hearty--albeit, potentially dangerious--chuckle. That's true.

Hi again everyone!
Moving soon?
Should we strap in before midnight?
Who's midnight?

Our move should come after a grand unvieling of our new home at the stroke of midnight. I am excited with anticipation of the revalation of our new home. The move and unveiling are coincident. And as it is already midnight, anytime's the time.

"The nuclear reactor/rocket engine programs of the 60s suffered from some fairly fundamental technical difficulties ..."
This is where I get the performance figures for our project.

As you can see, it is as far beyond NERVA as the surface-mount light-emitting diode is from the vacuum tube.
"The political purpose of beating the Russians had been achieved ..."
Yes, but we lose sight of the fact that our ability to put massive quantities of material into orbit at that time had the exclusive military purpose of proving to the Russians that we could drop anything we wanted to on their heads.
Now we are in the unenviable position of having that message sent to us by the Chinese, who can now drop virtually anything they want to on our heads.
Our adoption of a pacifist space posture will not protect us from their military ambitions. It is vital to the security and peaceable continuation of life on Planet Earth that the United States be THE military behemoth in space, as well as on the oceans and in the skies. I frankly don't trust the Chinese Communists to keep the peace if they gain the upper hand that supremacy in space would provide.
"The free flow of oil at market prices" would mean
absolutely nothing to our quality of life if the ChiComs could launch ballistic packages from the surface of the Moon. It is absolutely vital that we get there "fustest with the mostest."

Should we strap in before midnight? No need to strap in. This is not like moving the castle, big rockets, high-G acceleration and all that. Once it's all set up this is quick and simple, with all the acoustic noise and fury of two mouse-clicks, and... suddenly it's there. The stepping-stone to the New Home.
If you spill your drink when it happens, it's your fault.

Oh, dear. This one's fresh from the presses.
Increased U.S.-led aggression troubles Dear Leader
Central Korean News Agency^| 1/1/06 | DPRK Press
Posted on 12/31/2005 2:50:31 PM PST by HowLongFong
Tensions with imperial U.S.-led aggressors have raised much in the last two days. Following the most vicious December 28th assault on the Dear Leader, a group calling itself "Flying Fortress" threatened Kim and all North Koreans, saying, "We shall make your land to resemble the country of wind and ghosts."
This latest act of violence against the Democratic Republic has caused Mr. Kim and his administration to employ new security measures within the DPRK. Citizens will no longer be able to pass through the streets after sundown, as many of the American-funded assassins do their work at night. They have a song which says, "I like the night life, I like to boogie," clearly a means of communication among their clandestine units. All jubilant and healthy residents of the Democratic Republic should not be alarmed. DPRK historians and geneticists are currently researching our Dear Leader's ancestry. Two groups have linked Mr. Kim directly to the family line of the Greek deity Zeus.
May the Dear Leader shine upon and look over us all.
