This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I call Bay "Mr. Man" heh...
I spent yesterday tryin' to scare him from goin' in there again... :~D Hopefully there will be no further updates :~D
That is exactly it Becky. Uneducated horse owners think that by giving in to the horse, being "nice" from a human perspective, and letting the horse dictate things they will be the horse's friend. Nothing could be further from the truth. It only demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of the nature and instincts of horses, and instead anthropomorphizes them (expecting the horse to behave and respond as a human would). It is a similar attitude to those parents who are afraid to discipline their childen out of fear that the child will not "like" them or be their friend.
As Franz Mairinger's book says "Horses are made to be horses", not dogs, not kids, not adult humans, but horses that think, process, and act like horses.
LOVE your coat! I may have to visit the local Gebos or Tractor Supply to get me one.
I have gone to the store, church, class, dinner out, and other places with hay in my hair and forgotten manure on the bottoms of shoes. I don't mean to, but I really just don't notice those things. I usually do change into "street clothes", but have worn a barn coat at times when I probably shouldn't have.
I sure hope you got some of this rain, Becky! I think it has rained gently all night and we finally have actual puddles out back in the pasture.
This time I remembered to put the horses up and get things ready in case it rained. And, it was so warm last night that I didn't blanket. I even remembered to stop at the Home Depot and pick up another hose so that it reaches all the way INTO the barn and I won't have to carry full buckets. I can just fill them up now.
I will have a poopy mess in the stalls to clean up, but I won't have to run around in the rain setting up hoses, collecting buckets, and herding horses into the barn.
I had to go out to the stables and give medicine to mine last week on my lunch break. I tried to watch where I was walking and hoped I didn't smell like horse mature the rest of the day:')
It poured here all night, and was windy. I guess the rain isn't news here, but the wind was... we lost power at some point, evidenced by the blinking clocks.
I'm sure glad I got my drainage ditch cleaned out yesterday before it started with that much gusto... horses are in the barn... waiting for breakfast about now I'm sure :~D
I saw this last night and thought of youhttp://www.landsoftexas.com/texas/index.cfm?Detail=&INV_ID=18220
Interesting! Not quite a big enough barn... but we're gonna have to build to afford the place we want :~D
I'm telling the Realtors I just want land. The extras have to happen as we go along. Such a bright and clean looking barn though.
Hey. Quiet around here today:')
Who's this guy?:')
This is Grandpa. 20 year old Red dun-appaloosa Quarter horse. He's the horse I ride.
He looks very well taken care of. His mane is so red and shiny. Funny how they just look at you when you have the camera. Mine don't even blink at the flash. I had to shine a flash light on my mare the other day and started shining it on her to get her comfortable with it. At first the ears went back and then she was ok and ignoring it. I think the saddle club horses probably just consider it normal that we take pictures of everything they do:')
where are u?
He sure is a nice ole guy! Glad you checked in... Have you been riding much lately?
He sure looks like a nice old guy. :-) Glad that you posted a picture of him. Have you managed to get anyone to give you pointers while you ride? I remember that we were talking about it a while back. Let us know how you're doing.
Thanks for the picture - looks like he just got a good brushing and instructions to look at the camera :)
