The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

All those spots in her background too :)

And not a white hair on her ;~D Appaloosas are like a box of chocolates ;~D

She's really nicely built... has the butt he should have when he gets some wormer and feed. You can see in his neck topline how thin he is.

His personality might perk up with a little higher octane fuel, but hopefully he'll stay nice for them.

I just looked at the weather forecast and we've got a 70% chance of rain tomorrow:)

Glad you liked it. I had some blood tests done this morning, and pinged from home before I left. Normally don't have too much time at work, to search for those smilies.

Hope the tests were all okay. I'm that way at work, posting is hit and miss here, usually not much time.

I think he'll always have a more sport horse build than Speed, she's from a long line of stock type horses. With some decent food though, he will fill out well.

When it came time for Henkell to be introduced to tack and rider, I sentt him to a local cowboy who has a nice colt starting and auction prep business. He preps horses for folks like D. Wayne Lucas including starting them for the track.

He just fell in love with Henkell. He has some really good assistants and they usually are the ones that ride the young colts, but he started Henkell himself. He doesn't say much so when he does say something, it carries a lot of weight. He pronounced Henkell a good horse, although, the first time he went in the stall to halter him, they had to rope Henkell to catch him. He didn't know who the heck these guys were so wasn't going to let them catch him.

Trakehers are very tough horses, both mentally and physicially. Check out this link for their history:
http://www.trakehners-international.com/history.html. During WWII, the breed was nearly wiped out.

2J, I was telling Mack and Charlie about running into you at the store and the lady that was at the meat counter with us. I thought the look on her face was priceless when we told her how we meet, and how I was there because of what you said on the internet. I think she thought we were a couple of loons:). And then when I got in the truck on the way home I looked down and realize I had my old ragged Carhart on, she probably really thought I was strange. I go out to do chores and forget to take this old coat off till I get in town. And it never fails if I have it on I run into someone I know:). But I really love this coat, and it's the warmest one I've got, so I just grab it without thinking about the way it looks.
I should take the money I saved buying this chicken and go buy me a new one:)

Becky

LOL!! If your old Carhart looks anything like my old denim barn coat, you probably looked like a bag lady. I've done this before too and I get really embarassed when I do, coz it's got horse crap on it and everything else. No telling how it smells.

LOL, bag lady indeed. You judge for yourself. I imagine (and don't blame her a bit) 2J was thinking Lord, I don't want to be seen with this person:)....LOL.

LOL!!! Yep, that's definately a bit ratty! I think it deserves to be retired and you deserve a new one. They really are nice coats though, so I can understand why you like it.

I promised my self this year to go buy one, but I just haven't got around to it yet.

They are the absolute warmest coats, and best wind blockers I've ever had. I've wore it while on the bikes before and it's almost as good as my leather coat.

Heh! I honestly didn't notice and I even hugged ya!

I've learned that the nicest people are Oklahomans wrapped in just this kind of package. Okies are the hardest working, least pretentious, most helpful and kind people in the world. I've said it many times in the Hole...I love Oklahoma!

They brag about Oklahoma a lot, though, in my experience ;~D

Great coat Becky... When you come here you'll see how there's a store just right next door, and I'll often get an idea to run over there for something and not realize till I'm there standing in line that I still have bed hair and I'm dressed in whatever I went out to feed horses in. It's embarrassing :~D
