The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Good morning.

Very warm and humid here this morning, but no rain:(. The temps are suppose to start dropping and be cooler, in the 50's the next few days.

I've been such a slob this week, haven't rode one time, even with all the warm weather. I have gotten alot of things done around the house tho. I'm wanting to get everything in good shape so that for sure in Feb, when I have to ride I'll be ready.

I got that coat yesterday from Julia. It is NOT an Austrailian Raincoat. I don't know if someone snookered her, or she was trying to snooker me:). I still bought it, she came down on the price. It's a very good rain coat, black, long, with a split up the back that will make it good for riding, but it's not that oil cloth stuff. It looks more like a dress up coat. But it will work for me, the price was right, and I'm set now for wet weather, if it would just happen.

I have almost forgotten what it was like when it wasn't raining... :~D

Good morning! I'm still sitting with the wet hay in the back of the truck. I don't want to take it back till it's dry enough to get the good stuff back home. It's under cover, sortof, where it sits, and I told them I wouldn't bring it back till it was dry.

You know, dandelion, I noticed Rangers coat too. I'm not sure if you know this, it's just a suggestion. If he were mine I would suspect worms. I'd sure get a wormer in him, preferably one containing ivermetrin. It could be that he just grows alot of hair, and he's not wormy at all. If that's the case it still won't hurt him to worm him.

Do you know if he's been wormed before? Do you know if his dam was wormed on a regular basis while carrying him?

I came across a 92 PDR. Is it worth messing with as a reference?

We just got back from town. Mack took me in his Vet:)

I'm kind of excited. For the last OH, 20 years I've had a set of coffee/end tables that my mother gave me. They're very very nice, even tho about 35 years old. But they finally got the best of me. They have glass tops, and lots of molding on the legs, and the end tables had 3 shelves, top, middle and bottom. They were very big too. Dusting them has been such a chore. I've just hated it. And we have such a problem with dust.

I've hauled them down to our building, I'm going to sell them, I just can't do it anymore. I've been telling Mack is what I want to replace them is just a simple table on the order of TV trays, and I want black. I even had told Julia about it the last time we rode. Yesterday when I went to get the coat from her, she showed me a set of TV trays that she found the day before at a store in Tulsa. They were Black:). I had to go get me a set. I think they look even better then I expected.

The tip about worming is a good one. That might indeed have something to do with the heavy coat, and getting him on a regular worming routine is good advice regardless! That's something the vet will be able to help advise on when he comes out.

Sure is quiet in here today... I don't have much to say horse-wise... While you guys continue drought, up here it's ~still~ raining. It's feast or famine in the saddle club thread, weatherwise.

You guys drivin' around in the vet is ~not~ acting your age :~D Must be fun.

I'm a big fan of simplicity too. My grandparents on my dad's side had very ornate tastes in furniture too... Beautiful quality furniture, but the ornate carving and claw foot stuff they had was just really too fancy for our tastes, and we sold it as well. He had end tables with leather tops. Leather! I kept them for awhile. They were pretty, but set one wet glass or a plant on it and it was ruined. So we put glass tops on them to protect them. Argh - fingerprints! We sold them too - to someone who wanted to live that way.

LOL,,,acting OUR age is no fun:)

He let me drive it home. The idle arm sticks a bit, and I told him I won't drive it again till he fixes that. Makes it hard to slow down:\.

When HE was driving we got on the expressway, and did 100. I didn't realize we were going that fast because it happened so fast:). Almost as much fun as the Harley's (bikes:).

I'm so sorry you're still getting rain:(. I don't think I could deal with that.

Kristy and Charlie went to Colorado this weekend to visit her dad. She called last night to let us know they made it. It was snowing there and they were expecting 14 inches.

You guys are gonna get pulled over and the cop's gonna walk up when he sees you and say "Huh! I thought you were a couple-a kids goofin off" ;~D

This weather really is getting to me, and I'm a die-hard who really loves it here. This really isn't normal. Typical winter weather in WA is "If you don't like the weather, wait 15 minutes, it'll change". It still makes it hard to plan outdoor activities in advance, but at least we usually get some surprisingly nice days once in awhile. This rain just seems to go on and on. Last winter, we were way below normal, I guess it's evening out. :~\

Hi there! I finally managed to find a quite moment at work to pop in here and see what was going on. It was quiet in here yesterday too without you around Hair.

Dandelion, about the fuzzy hair and possible worms, my little filly Ellie is really fuzzy too but I know for sure that she's not wormy coz she gets wormed every other month just like the big girls. I think it's just a baby thing. All my babies have been really fuzzy their first winter but they usually slick off real nice come summertime. But I agree, if Ranger hasn't been wormed recently, he definately needs it, long hair or not. You can probably pick up some kind of ivermectin paste pretty cheaply at your local feed store and do it yourself. It'll be cheaper than paying the Vet for it. If you've never done it, I'm sure your husband or that cool "Ol' Cowboy" you were talking about can show you how.

Nah, I think your typical Vette owner is a 45+ yr old male having his 2nd childhood. They're too expensive for kids! ;o)
