The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I had my first setback yesterday with my new little filly. I work with her every day, leading her, cleaning her feet, standing tied, etc., and she's taken it all in with good humor. My daughter also messes with her a little bit. Well, yesterday the vet and his helper came out to do her first shots. I brought her out of her stall, she took one look at those guys and went berzerko. I made the mistake of thinking since she's gotten so used to me that she would be ok with anyone. And it seems to be men that she has a problem with and it would stand to reason, all of her experiences with humans have been with men roping her, chasing her and poking her. All of her experiences with me and my daughter have been quiet, gentle and loving. I'm going to have to get my husband out to mess with her and he really doesn't like messing with the horses. This is important, though, so I think he'll do it.

Oh that's terrible. Poor thing. Did you get her to calm down at all? How is she today?

Oh my, that is a new one on me. I think this horse probably laid down because he was use to having something to lean against. He's always been hauled in Charlie's trailer with another horse. I have a feeling Charlie will get Joe to help him with this problem.

Ok, thanks for the tips. For the most part I probably won't have to do anything but rasp them off a little every once in while. The times I've kept horses barefoot out here, they pretty much stayed in shape on their own because of all the rock. Usually it would just be smoothing off a chipped place if anything.

I'm glad you're doing good Maureen:). Check in here every once in awhile.

LOL...that's all I could think about when I heard the story. Is Charlie was probably so mad, and scared all at the same time. When I heard about the tieing the horse to the trailer, is all I could think about was that line from the movie "Vacation", about dragging the dog to Wally World:)

Mack and I will be alone this year. The kids alternate one year here on with their in=laws. I love having family get togetheres, but having one every once in awhile with just Mack and I is kind of nice and peaceful. A few times we went out to eat, but I think this year, I'll cook and set the table with the good china, maybe even with candles:). We've gotten real bad about just sitting in front of the TV for supper. Sitting at the table just the two of us will make it rather special:)

Oh my, that could really cause problems. I don't think that's every happened to me, but I could see where it would really make a horse shy about letting you touch it...

Good morning.

Our weather has made a drastic change. We have a cold front blowing in, and it is literally "blowing" in. The wind is horrible. By this afternoon wind chill factors are suppose to be in the 20's:( But I think it must feel good to the horses, Rocky and Harley were out there this morning prancing around all bowed up, wheeling around and rearing up. I wish wind and cold made me feel that good:)

We've gotten real bad about just sitting in front of the TV for supper.

My meals are usually spent in front of the PC. I think the only time I sit at a table is when I got out to eat.

Family gatherings are nice, but your plans sound wonderful too. When my mom was alive, we had all the "fixins" and family together. My daughter's dad has a very large family, and they have a big doings at every holiday. Women cook and clean up and men watch football!...lol

Yes, she got the shots. To add insult to injury, they had to twitch her. She's going to be forever suspicious of men if I don't get some out here to treat her gently.

She calmed down as soon as those guys were gone. Acted like it never happened. I've seen horses that have had a bit of a preference for men or women, it's easy to see know how that could happen now.

That same front just came through here. Wind blowing like a gale, temps dropping like a rock.

Wow! Rain here today, but suppose to hit the low 60's. If you getting it, we will soon then. Tomorrow I think.

I think we got a little rain thru the night, but you can't tell it now. We have high fire danger alerts around.

Good morning everyone...

That's a pickle for sure, getting enough men around her to convince her she's wrong about them :~D

I think if you were nekkid, you'd wheel around and prance a bit :~D

Good morning... I sure haven't been around much here... we're finally drying out this week, but it's turned cold with the clear nights :~D

But they aren't nekkid:). They have really grown some thick coats the last few weeks. I think the wind and all the leaves blowing under their feet was the cause. I've all ready got the top of a tree that was in my yard snapped off. I'd take a picture but once again, I'm having trouble getting them loaded. It's not snapfish, I think it's my camera....

I had a really good picture taken this morning of my cat this morning laying in the crook of my arm while I read the compter....I don't know why it won't show up on the host sites. I've tried 2. I thought with all the kitty pictures it would be a good one to post. I don't know why he insists on laying right in front of the computer laying over my left arm.

The pictures loaded fine in to my personal photo library but won't show up on the host sites.

I was just sayin'...if you wanted to mimick them... that's the way to do it is all... :~D

Ours are getting thick coats too... at least Bay and the pony are.

I can't imagine what about your camera would make them not show up... I don't get it. What's it do? Just lock up trying??

Here too. I'm not sure ecurbh and I have sat at our table more than once since he's been here. :~D
