Most of the jobs in our office require a college degree. There are a few exceptions, but those have very little room for advancement. And these are the people the rest of us couldn't do our jobs without...our aides, our office worker and our ILP worker (who works with teenagers on independent living skills). The rest of us can get promotions, with or without a master's degree, based on experience.

Yeah, I know; it's the same here. I understand, however, that many positions around here, which require a college degree, are only paying $18,000 a year....one can easily get paid that without going to college.....I just think, for some positions, that piece of paper is over-rated. It really doesn't mean, as in your case, also, that the person is competent, not lazy, and has people skills...obviously, those are commodities that aren't necessarily gained with an education....but are much needed. : )

I'm watching the news....apparently, they're very worried about Hurrican Katrina hitting New Orleans, which sits below sea level...I believe they said they're awaiting a conference to be held by the governor of the state.

Yes, that could have disastrous consequences. I hope the people there are clearing out. There is only one road out of that area that goes to I-10, I believe. Been awhile since I was down that way.

I know they were relieved when the last one missed them, in June....unfortunately, FOX news saying that, though the hurricane could really divert from the path they've calculated as most likely....it's really not looking good, at all, for New Orleans from the various data/calculations.
Perhaps the governor will state they must clear out....Fox just saying expecting this conference at any moment now.

My sister and family are in Breaux Bridge, La and my brother and family in Scott, La. They never take these hurricanes seriously even though they rode out Andrew at their homes and were thoroughly scared.
To: Conservababe
I sure wouldn't want to ride out a hurricane....though I probably wouldn't want to leave my home, either....I guess when someone lives in whatever natural disaster most commonly befalls the area, the people who live there become somewhat desentized to it.

Is she single?????????
Yes, but she has a great guy. Can you afford a Chateau, Palace or Castle? If so I will give her your name. :)

This is just a quick fly-by post. Things look pretty bad right now. If Katrina keeps on the current track we coul;d be in serious trouble. Naturally, since I've been gone for so long, I've completely blanked out on how to post links. Grrrrrroaning. But, I'm sure the good folks here will be able to follow Katrina's progress with these links

One day, perhaps you can post some of those old pics of NY
Brooklyn Bridge.
New York from the Brooklyn Bridge 1965.
