Most of the jobs in our office require a college degree. There are a few exceptions, but those have very little room for advancement. And these are the people the rest of us couldn't do our jobs without...our aides, our office worker and our ILP worker (who works with teenagers on independent living skills). The rest of us can get promotions, with or without a master's degree, based on experience.
Yeah, I know; it's the same here. I understand, however, that many positions around here, which require a college degree, are only paying $18,000 a year....one can easily get paid that without going to college.....I just think, for some positions, that piece of paper is over-rated. It really doesn't mean, as in your case, also, that the person is competent, not lazy, and has people skills...obviously, those are commodities that aren't necessarily gained with an education....but are much needed. : )
I'm watching the news....apparently, they're very worried about Hurrican Katrina hitting New Orleans, which sits below sea level...I believe they said they're awaiting a conference to be held by the governor of the state.
