Fox News just announced that Katrina is now a Category 5 Hurricane.
May God have mercy.

If it hits at anywhere *near* the current strength, it could at least rival Camille, from what I can tell.
Definitely praying for everyone in the way - I can't even fathom this.

I can't fathom evacuating a whole city the size of New Orleans. The logistics of getting the people out, who can't leave on their own is daunting.

Just heard from my sister in Ocean Springs MS. Her two older kids and their families live in NO, but all have left the city. Their daughter and her family are with Brenda and are going to Hattiesburg to my sister's in-law's house. Her son is going to Birmingham with his wife to go to her mother's house. Actually, if Katrina follows the expected track, Birmingham is gonna get hit on Tuesday, but at least they won't have to worry about storm surges! My two younger sisters are staying on the coast. They are over in Gautier and Pascagoula, so they'll get some strong winds, but not nearly as bad as near the eye. My b-i-l, who is Pastor of a Parish in Gulfport is staying. It's gonna get bad where he is because he'll be in the Northeast quadrant, which is the worst place to be, though he'll be about 50 miles away from the eye, as the crow flies. He'll move over to one of the parish buildings before the storm gets too bad. It's a two story building, he's a mile off the beach, and probably 15' off the water, so the storm surge probably won't do any damage up his way.
This is gonna be a big mess. Katrina is shaping up to be worse than Camille.*shudder*
