Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Today's Foxhole thread is about the Marine Copr Emblem and Seal.
A Sailor's take on it:
When I was in the navy I heard it was a seagull standing on a beachball waving a "Go Navy" flag.
The Marines say:
"We stole the Anchor from the Navy, the Wings from the Air Force. On the 7th Day, when God Rested, we stormed His fort, stole the globe, and have been defending it ever since."

Weather guy was just comparing Camille and Katrina. Camille had winds of 200 mph. But he said one difference.
"This one's bigger."

I know it, sis...it chills me to the bone that Celeste is in such denial. She told me she was praying for me...that I would have peace.
I'm praying for Celeste to have a U-turn and I told her so.
:-)
I am pretty sure everyone in BA CHEF would forgive her if she asked and wanted to join us...but I'm also pretty sure she'd never have a position of responsiblity again. Being a leader is very important to her and I can't see her humbling herself to being just a mere member again. But I believe in miracles and I'm praying for that U-turn!
And since I told her so, that little bug will always be in her ear. The option is there.
But it's gonna take a miracle, especially after I talked to her Friday...she is absolutely locked into her position.

Just heard from my sister in Ocean Springs MS. Her two older kids and their families live in NO, but all have left the city. Their daughter and her family are with Brenda and are going to Hattiesburg to my sister's in-law's house. Her son is going to Birmingham with his wife to go to her mother's house. Actually, if Katrina follows the expected track, Birmingham is gonna get hit on Tuesday, but at least they won't have to worry about storm surges! My two younger sisters are staying on the coast. They are over in Gautier and Pascagoula, so they'll get some strong winds, but not nearly as bad as near the eye. My b-i-l, who is Pastor of a Parish in Gulfport is staying. It's gonna get bad where he is because he'll be in the Northeast quadrant, which is the worst place to be, though he'll be about 50 miles away from the eye, as the crow flies. He'll move over to one of the parish buildings before the storm gets too bad. It's a two story building, he's a mile off the beach, and probably 15' off the water, so the storm surge probably won't do any damage up his way.
This is gonna be a big mess. Katrina is shaping up to be worse than Camille.*shudder*

They're evacuating special needs folks to the Superdome, which can handle, according the the Mayor, up to 50,000 people. They've opened most of the schools as shelters as well, and will begin picking folks up in RTA busses at certain points throughout the city. Anyone who wants to get out of their home to go to a shelter will have the opportunity to do that for free. The police are beginning to go through the city with their car PA systems blasting the announcements about the pick-up locations. The Mayor is taking this very seriously, and anyone paying attention for the last 24 hours knows they need to get out of Dodge if they can.

The entire MS Gulf Coast is technically within that Northeast Quadrant of the storm! It is not that large an area. You can drive from Waveland to the Alabama line along the coast in two hours, and it only takes that long because the traffic on the Beach Road is slower than the Interstate. Actually, it only takes two hours to get to New Orleans from the Alabama line along I-10, and the storm is SO HUGH, hurricane force winds will be felt all along there. My sister, Joanne, and her husband live at our Fish Camp over near Pascagoula, and it got through Camille OK, so they should be fine.
