Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I wouldn't mind if I didn't have to park. And if it wasn't noon on a Saturday when you can't even look at anything without stepping on a coupla people.
Time to get ready for the interview, I guess. *sigh* I hate getting to interviews; have I mentioned that? Not that the interviews themselves are much fun.
Hopefully I at least won't be ridiculed this time around.

You'll make it! Try not to fret.
See, parking is another place where my cute little car beats Van-sama.

The whole car "kushes" down about two inches and presses into the road at speed. OK then. "Compressed" Road Paste. :P
In NASCAR parlance it's called "downforce."
Afternoon! Didn't have internet this morning at werk.

Tell him what I tell those guys.
"In the future when we have used up all the earths resources all our descendants will have left is to mine the landfills (which by then will cover most of the earth). If we recycle everything then there will be nothing in those landfills for them to mine. So we have to do your part now to see to it they have what they need."
That usually shuts them up for a while.

It's pretty much official. I just checked.
My brain shut down at 2:45...it can't be restarted before the weekend...

At the very least this reasoning stops them cold while the try to figure out...
Does it makes sense at all?
Is it good reasoning?
Does this guy really mean it?
Should I tell him he is wrong?
Does he even care about the future or is he mocking me?
You can almost read those questions off a liberal's face right after you give that excuse with a straight face.

...a Corolla engine, though...no pep...Dunno what kind of Speed Racer-Mobile you're used to, but my cousin's fiancee has a '96 Crayola* wagon I find to be a zippy li'l bugger, and if the Matrix/Vibe has the same power plant, I'd take it.

Bwahaha.... I might have to try that. With a wide-eyed, I'm-totally-serious look.
I like him better than the Muslim guy. There was this giant bug on the phone today when it rang so I asked the Muslim coworker to pick up the other line. Ecohippie would have come and removed the bug for me after that. (I could have done it myself but it was huge and I didn't have anything to pick it up with. I don't like feelers) but Muslim coworker doesn't know what chivalry means. He thinks I dress immodestly.

Yah...I had a Corolla. It needed extra hamsters, as I said. Didn't handle hills well.

Back from the interview. I think it went well. I just might get this.
It's a temporary position - six months or so - but who knows...could become permanent. And at least it'd let me get comfortable with the local area (and make peace with my bank account) before I hadda search again.

Well folks, it's finally happened. I'm leaving the ranks of the unemployed.
The people at the job I interviewed for this afternoon liked me, and have offered me the position, starting Tuesday...I asked for one day to finish catching up at the volunteer job and to let them know
It's a six month position, as I said, but it sounds like they have the power to extend it if need be. And in any case, it's a very good job while it lasts...essentially setting up new systems and making sure people's stuff gets moved and the system is set up how they like it. And figuring out how to make some legacy apps play nicely with XP...but I've done that before.
Does mean driving a little bit, but I can handle that...and it's really just outside of town, so it's more stop-and-go than any kind of distance.
We're gonna go out to eat somewhere to celebrate. Woo-hoo!!
