The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Crows, huh?

I can see that. They have that vindictive look in their eyes.

Kinda like seagulls.

hehehehe...

I don't even bother with the news side anymore, hon. Unless I see something funny or uplifting or ripe for a thread hijacking, I won't go in.

The knickers-in-a-twist crowd is running rampant.

I've been too upset with the "the poor deserve to die horribly" contigent to venture out much today.

If there's anything at all I've learned from this volunteer job, it's that if you don't have family to help you, there's a very, very fine line between being a successful professional, even, and not being able to pay for heat. Granted, it's good to keep savings on hand...but what happens if you're out of work for six months, which can certainly happen?

People can't be boxed. Everyone has a different story, and to put whole groups in one box is ridiculous.

And, for that matter, one issue voters are doing some o' that boxing thing, too...

I swear tho Ruthy, the tide is turning in this Governor's race and we're starting to pull ahead. But I sign back on and there's another thread about Kilgore not answering a survey.

I wanna tell 'em that he won't answer it because they're a bunch of whiners.

But they're better armed than I am. ;-)

Speaking of which, Pippin and Merry have been stealing some.

I'm sorry. You do know you're not allowed to speak rationally on FR don't you?

In Texas, it's skunks and armadillos you're most likely to find in the middle of the road.

They've even written a song about it:

Crossin' the highway late last night
He shoulda looked left and he shoulda looked right
He didn't see the station wagon car
The skunk got squashed and there you are!

You got yer
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
You got yer dead skunk in the middle of the road
Stinkin' to high Heaven!

I have yet to see a real, live skunk.

Or even a dead one, for that matter.

Either way, I'm prolly lucky. ;-D

I wanna tell 'em that he won't answer it because they're a bunch of whiners.

It won't change their minds one bit.

And I'm willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that there are quite a number of FReepers who claim to have an arsenal, when all they really have the same ol' BB gun they got in 5th grade in their closet.

That's kinda amazing. They can live just about EVERYWHERE, and are a nuisance. They'll happily settle under porches or houses and live there stinking. And they raid garbage, too. Nasty.

Speaking of Merry...

Have you gotten used to him as "Charlie" yet?

It took me half the first season of LOST to get "there won't be a Shire, Pippin" out of my mind whenever I saw him. *laughing*

You mean the Freepers with the BB guns? Or the skunks?
