I have yet to see a real, live skunk.
Or even a dead one, for that matter.
Either way, I'm prolly lucky. ;-D
That's kinda amazing. They can live just about EVERYWHERE, and are a nuisance. They'll happily settle under porches or houses and live there stinking. And they raid garbage, too. Nasty.
Not to worry, there is a fairly common tree, native to South Florida, the white stopper, that smells like a skunk.
If you are ever driving with your windows down through an area that sill has the old Dade County or Keys jungle and smell a slightly skunk like odor, it's the stoppers.
Yes... as it would happen. We had a skunk gettin' into the dog pen when I was a kid... The dog was stunk up good and proper. Dad and I went out skunk huntin'. It was pretty cool, since it was the first time my Dad let me carry a loaded rifle as we were walkin' the loggin' roads.
I was about ten, and I was packin' my Marlin .22LR Golden Mountie. Proud as can be. :-)
Killed us a skunk, we did. Whether it was the right skunk was simply not important. The dog, a Lab named Chip (pick of the litter from Gunner, our old Lab, a former national field trial champion) got the bead on the skunk... he "got it"... he knew why we were out there... that dog was simply born to hunt. It was his whole life.
