1. Helps that they were "fixed up" by people who knew them both and thought they'd "click". And so they did.
2. He's 37, I'm 41. Guys our age, who are acting our age, are quite ready to commit, and require only someone who isn't an absolute raving psycho, a democrat, or a Hutt; most 40-ish single wimmin seem* to be in at least two of those categories.
*Just as most single 20-something guys seem to be uncontrollable roving cads. I was that, once, too.
