The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

But who's going to account for it all?

I think decapitation is a relatively pleasant way to die, compared to some.

So...you were a berserker who lived in Africa? Weird, dude.

We can use the honey to feed the army, as well as fermenting some to make mead...

mwahahaha!

Oh... I thought you said "bookkeeper". :-)

Bees... uh... OK... we need one of those too. :-)

I'm fairly certain that some of my ancestors were "berserkers". It just explains some things, is all. :-)

They were Vikings, fer sure... but whether they were ordinary viking pillagers, or full-on berserkers... is merely a question of scale.

Good night, Bear.

I'll study my mead-making book tonight in preparation for the coup. ;-)

Everything Scots or Irish is also Norwegian. And vice-versa. That's what the whole pillaging thing was all about.

The vikings came over, and ran off with all the best looking women. That's why it isn't called the U.K. Bikini Team. :-)

Heh...I note they left the haggis behind.

On the other hand, apparently the Scots did away with whatever lutefisk was dumped on 'em.

I'll try anything once.

Haven't had haggis...yet.

Lutefisk either, for that matter. I think Dad said they had it at gatherings when he was little, but it isn't exactly common in Vermont, and he never seemed eager to find any.

Apparently for good reason.

Haggis is revolting... even when you don't know what it is.

Lutefisk is *especially* revolting. Fortunately, there is no way to make it and have be a secret in the neighborhood. Like a Meth Lab...

Trini has sneaked some strange food on me before, but fortunately, most of it is really good!

*stretch*

I better get to bed. It's after 1:00 here.

Nighty night!

You Should Get a MD (Doctor of Medicine)
You're both compassionate and brilliant - a rare combination.
You were born to be a doctor.
What Advanced Degree Should You Get?

Maybe it's because I answer stoopid questions from doctors all day?
