New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |

Still round the corner there may wait |

Home is behind, the world ahead, |
And it's getting stronger.
This looks like it could be a seriously, seriously bad storm.
I'm thinkin' if it keeps going the way it's going, the name Katrina will most definitely be retired.
Beer and booze crops? ;o)
Did you order those funky seed balls? They're kinda cool! I just ordered some stuff from that place last week. Service was awesome; had the order in 3 days!
Morning Corin, got to say we don't have any pampas grass and don't know much about it. We think OT's reasoning is spot on.
Man, do I love daylilies. They multiply like crazy. Drives LSA up a wall though, I keep dividing them and planting new beds, she wants to do some other plant stuff. Heck we can do both, there are still some patches of grass that aren't converted yet.
This has been the best year for Hostas we have seen. They are 'HUGH' and the blossoms are outstanding. Columbines seem to have survived and thrived, spreading nicely.
Looking forward to your 'riparian corridor establishment' and its subsequent 'enhancement' project. That really does sound fascinating.
Naaahhh....muh real names. Retired (at least) one of Hair's too.
Considering the fact that my real first name starts with 'R' and my middle name with 'S', I'm not even sure I've ever had a hurricane named after me, much less have one retired. I'll have to look over the list.
Is it soggy out there! And I've got some neighbors running lawnmowers this morning. I might at least turn the compost pile today. I'm staring at TheSunRoom and deciding which doors will be for traffic...planning pathways and plantings.
Skeeters are swarming bigtime. Miss Cat's grass is coming up and I've got more little green 'maters coming. Let's see if I get any this time 'round. I'm not planning any more week-long sojourns for a while.
WooHoo! My first name is on the list this year, but my middle name isn't on this year, or the next few years. It would have to be a VEY active season for them to make it to my name this year.
Heh. I guess I'm just ornery with names that start with the right letters.
They're saying Katrina might be a 4 by the time it reaches New Orleans - if it goes that way.
I didn't know that was your real first name! It's a nice name. One I wouldn't mind using if I get a chance...
My first name apparently has never been used. I'm thinking it's too long - says they try to use kind of short names. Probably goes for Margaret, too, though I didn't look through the retired names for hers.
I just can't even imagine that. It'd be a total disaster, no? Because of New Orleans being below sea level, or whatever the case is?
Yes, it's below sea level. Don't even want to think about how long it would take to evacuate the place....and how many people might be stuck in traffic when the thing hits.
I haven't ordered them yet. But I'm gonna get a set of each kind and try them.
It's frightening. Just thinking about trying to escape something like that makes me feel ill. I hope they're wrong about where it hits.
When is it supposed to make landfall?
Yeah, I should just go read about it myself.
Monday, I think.
Until I decided to do the dry stream bed, I was plannin' to establish some daylilies out at the front of the drive way. But that'll have to wait.
I'm lookin' forward to the dry stream bed project too. I'll take pictures and post 'em of the progress.
I'm gonna try for more hostas too. I'm hoping to develop a shade/forest garden on the other side of the yard.
It's my Mama's name. Daddy insisted on naming me after her. She didn't want to, so she called me by my middle name instead. Kind of a pain, when I had to fill out forms using my full name, and folks would call me 'Rita'. I'd always have to underline my middle name and make a note that I went by that one.
I might get a set of the hummingbird balls. I can put them in the bobcat tracks that they didn't fill in completely.
Even with I-59 made into four lanes ALL going North, it would take HOURS to get everyone out! There would be a HUGH bottleneck on the bridge over Irish Bayou. That's why there are so many 'false starts' when hurricanes are headed their way, and why so many people simply ignore the early warnings.
Houston, we gots memory!
I bumpted the laptop up to 640. More when we gets free cash.
I'm on the laptop now. Difference is way cool.
