The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

So I have this $50 Wal-Mart 3.1 MP camera, which I used to take the pix you've seen this week. Not bad resolution for the price, but I notice it washes out color a bit and is sensitive to high-contrast situations (as in the restaurant).

I don't have a fix for the latter, but PhotoShop seems to be working for the washout problem; I use "auto levels" to make the contrast a little better, and puch up the color saturation by a factor of 40 (on whatever 0-100 scale PhotoShop uses).

So that's what I've been doing this evening...going back through old pics (back to the camping trip in July) and fixing them.

One o' these days I'm going to offer my cousin $60 for the 4 MP Canon he bought in 2002 for $600 :) I'ts better and shoots higher frame rate video, with sound :)

"The Train Job"; great show. Clare liked Jayne's hat with the ear flaps.

Are you familiar with the folk singers Kate Wolf, Steve Goodman, and Stan Rogers? I only heard their music after they'd died. We used to listen to a Folk Show on Sunday nights on WHYY out of Philly, in the mid to late 80's. Great show. That's when I first heard Celtic music, too.

My inner child is ten years old today

My inner child is ten years old!

The adult world is pretty irrelevant to me. Whether
I'm off on my bicycle (or pony) exploring, lost
in a good book, or giggling with my best
friend, I live in a world apart, one full of
adventure and wonder and other stuff adults
don't understand.

I have a couple of Stan Rogers CDs - learned of him a few years ago, so quite awhile after his death. And I've at least heard some Kate Wolf music, though I don't own any of her albums. Same goes for Steve Goodman.

*sigh*

So many of my favorite musicians are gone. For some, they died too young, and others are just of another generation. I'm glad we have recording now, but still...

There are far too many people I never got to see.

I had a rough time with it the first time around, when I didn't really "know" the character.

Now...well, it's just not right, and it'll be awfully hard to watch.

My inner child is sixteen years old!

Life's not fair! It's never been fair, but while
adults might just accept that, I know
something's gotta change. And it's gonna
change, just as soon as I become an adult and
get some power of my own.

Our #1 son, Paul, told us about Firefly when he was home for Christmas break last year. We got the discs from Netflix and just fell in love with it. God the DVD set in the summer.

No problem with crying... I nearly did when Serenity got her wings torn off, that hurt.

Hmmm... I could make the nine o'clock show...
