The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

She took some leftover coleslaw and rinsed off the dressing, then fried it

Does one "fry" cabbage? I mean, I'm using it right now in the vegetable soup I'm making to cure OB's munge, but "frying"?? LSA

I like LOTR. My favorite character is Eowyn.

Never heard of fried cabbage....unless you want to include stir-fried. I usually substitute cabbage for bean sprouts.

Just got my daffodils and some pansies planted in the front. Hope they live.

Ahh, sometimes the old discussions are the best discussions.

So true, Bear.

Whew, thought I had missed a home ec. class! Substituting cabbage for bean sprouts is a good idea. I substituted it for asparagus in the soup. Asparagus is one of OB's least favorite vegetables, ranks up there with cauliflower and broccoli.

Pansies are nice for fall color!! And the daffodils will be great next year, and the year after, and the year after that, til they choke out every other living thing in your garden...

They're supposed to be those big yellow daffodils. I got blue "winter hardy" pansies. They're supposed to bloom again in the spring.

I still have 30 crocus to plant. I'm thinking about putting them around the hostas and azalea in the front.

I miss the Scouring.

(it may prove to be less contentious than the thread I'm currently on)

"Scouring" means a nasty fight, my Precious. We don't likes it.

"The Scouring" of which Corin speaks is when we were all still in the getting-to-know-you phase of our Fellowship and there was a big argument over nothing and folks left for a day or so.

It wasn't nice.

So Corin, not even a light rinse, do you hear? *wink*
