The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

It's not that I don't care... it's that I realize the rest of the world doesn't care if I do.

Is that like having a doctor's excuse for skipping class? Hmmm...

I've been getting enough sleep. It's rest I haven't been getting enough of.

Oh gosh, something awful has happened.

Something got Isabelle. She's in shreds in the coop.

Gosh, I gotta go clean that up...

Joshua is very upset. I told him that Isabelle was never happy since Rosabelle died and now she's not unhappy any more. That made him feel a bit better, but still...

Puffy escaped demise, btw...Matthew asked us not to.

we started making the gator call at one we saw going back into the grass, the thing turned around and came running straight at us, came right close.

I'm afraid I'd have had to change my underwear after that! ;o)

He played essentially the same character in Legends of the Fall which I also liked as well as A River Runs Through It.

Congrats, 2J!! The churches are doing a remarkable job in all of the disaster sticken areas. My sister wrote me an e-mail bringing me up to speed on what was going on with my brother and other sister who lost their homes. They had all gathered at my brother's house to help clean up the mess before getting down to tearing out the sheetrock and taking it to the studs. While they were working, a couple of vans pulled up, full of folks from a church up in Olive Branch MS, which is just south of Memphis! They proceeded to help my family tear apart the house, and told them they'd be back in three weeks to help them put the new sheetrock up! It was really great of them to help in such a concrete way!

Well, I got Isabelle all cleaned up. Sigh...

One of the disaster teams I trained for is called "Mud out". It's mostly used for flooding and such, but they also went to NYC and cleaned all the apartments around Ground Zero because every one of them was filled with that fine dust from where the building fell. So when people came home they wouldn't have to be faced with such an awful task and deal with it mentally.

I think this is a "just damn" moment, if we are allowed to say that on this thread. Poor thing.

I know, they're driving me nuts. Sounds like the Buchanan Bridgadiers and McCainiacs are jumping on the anti-Bush bandwagon big time. They don't know anything about this woman, but they're SURE she must be awful.

I've been daydreaming a lot lately about how life would be if I just didn't give a royal frap.

You would just join the blissfully unaware 50% of the country who never bothers to vote and doesn't know what the hay is going on other than what they might hear in snatches on the nightly news.

I agree Sam.

I can't tell what got her, but it got her in the coop. I can't tell what all is missing but I know for sure her head is...no head to be found.

I haven't been shutting the coop door...haven't for a long time.

Guess I shoulda. I will from now on.

Oh my goodness, 2J! What could have gotten into the coop?

I can't imagine. I mean, we live in a neighborhood! Not out in the country. I have heard of coons doing that kinda thing, but wow!

Cat maybe? I kinda doubt it, but maybe.

I'm thinking of putting out a live trap and seeing. Not to kill it or anything...just to see. It's my fault for not shutting the coop door.

I had a quick look and didn't see this posted yet. Tolkien, R.I.P., from the National Review in 1973.
