Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

that said, if'n you don't go, I'll still respect yuh... I hope so, 'cuz we decided not to do it, post at 509. It would be a 'heck' weekend, driving home two hours to try to tend critters each night from Bellevue, getting up at 0'Dark:thirty to head back up there again. I think we'd end up tired and cranky rather than more 'one'. How bout if we find our own ways to be one that weekend? :~D

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a marriage seminar as a wedding present sort of says "You're going to mess this up terribly, here, maybe this'll help." Right?
My parents will provide the ladder if I want to elope, the dress if I trust Mom's handiwork, and an opinion on the guy. That's it. They sure as heck wouldn't give me a pass to a marriage seminar. Sheesh. My mother won't even give me relationship advice.

I'm sure it's fine. It's just not a type of outfit I'm at all familiar with.
I wear jeans or khakis or casual skirts...or I wear dresses. So to me slacks = feeling casual. Not necessarily the look. Just that it feels funny.
No, it doesn't make sense.

I think their motives are good, it was given with love... they want us to have a good marriage, as well as get churched up. If it was a slightly different tone, I might think I could get more out of it, but who knows.... we can seminar all we want, we're still gonna be the same people.... I'm a woman, I'll still nag a little, he's a man, so he'll still sit there deaf as a stump when I do it. It's a never gonna change :~D
Reading it, I'm not sure but it didn't even sound like the sex part would be very fun!

Ok, I'll take your word for it about the sex bit - but I disagree that women really have to nag, I hate nagging. But then sometimes I wonder if I got a few too many male traits in my makeup.
I don't think you should go, nobody ever learns anything they don't want to learn.

Hmmmm.....dried beef is pretty good on pizza as long as you don't salt the sauce.
To: Overtaxed

I would say that, with any gift you might receive, you are not OBLIGATED to use it. Now the fact that this is tied up with the family does make it a minefield, but truly if it is something you do not want to do, no one should make you feel bad if you do not want to go.
You are in a unique situation in that it is truly difficult to get away, so you do like to use those special times for something that will help you as a couple they way YOU see fit.
SirKit and I once attended a Marriage Encounter Weekend, and we decided that it just was too touchy feely for us. We were not comfortable 'sharing' with a bunch of strangers. This wasn't because it was too religious because we are religious people, we just didn't like the whole group dynamic thing. Gatherings like that just aren't for everyone.
Just my humble opinion of course. ;o)

Well the Canadian bacon is slated for breakfast fare and I didn't want to open a can of anchovies. I had "left-over" dried beef siting in the jar waiting to be used.

Oh - no one ~thinks~ they're a nag.... but you just wait. When stuff needs done it, needs done is all ;~D

The group discussion element did not appeal to us either.

Hmm, well, you may have a point - but no nagging until I've safely landed a husband, eh?
Besides, with most men, the "I'm trying really hard to do this but I can't quite manage" routine works well enough. I use it on my boss and coworkers sometimes.

And my parents did Marriage Encounter once, too - with the same conclusion you folks came to. Dad especially really disliked it.

Heh...come to think of it, I think someone bought their way to the Mawwiage Encouter weekend, and that's the only reason they went. It was NOT the sort of thing my Dad would have volunteered for, even before he got older and set in his ways.
Hm...

I made some a while back but I used only a half jar. I need to restock my emergency rations.
