The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Hmmm Hmmm Hmmm. Dog-n-pony-show briefing went well enough. I arranged all my travel for next week, coordinated my engineers who'll be traveling with me. Helped someone with computer woes, answered all my emails. Did a bunch of piddley little bothersome chores and now....

I have a bunch of free time. How 'bout that.

Cool! So you can go home early, then ;-)

I wish. I was late getting in - and I'm obsessive about getting in early - so I can't go home early. *pout*

Stupid traffic. :)

But I am excited about my trip next week. I'm in NM over a weekend and my mother is going to drive over for a visit. It's only five hours by car! We'll celebrate her birthday and go shoppin'. And I'm going to work on my outline for nanowrimo. I'm more motivated this year and plan to be more organized.

I think the reindeer parts are reserved for the dancer boys. I'll never be one of them.

I'm cool with the part. It looks like it will be a lot of fun.

In other news...I really want to leave now. I'm driving to my Mom's tonight. I'd just as soon get on the road.

Yay! I spent some time on mine last night. May redo it, there's a character who's being seriously underutilized. I get to do quirky-narrative-voice this year, I'm looking forward to it.

I'd mentioned to Rasputin earlier this week that I might want to leave early. He's in a meeting. I'm thinking if he's not out of there by three...I'm outta here...

Hah! I can see it now. I'll write the story and destroy the world. Then the villian can pull off his mask - scooby-doo style - and reveal himself to be Dubya.

(I could probably get that published...)

Michael Moo would sue you for plagiarism.

In other news, Rita is a Cat 5...

I was stuggling with POV. Do I tell the story of the big villian? Or the story of the poor kid who was manipulated into carrying out the plot to end the world? I settled on making it a detective story where agents uncover the plot and discover the horrible details.

My villian would take credit for that...

Have your villain cover for me. I'm leaving.

Time to hit the road. I check in when I can.

Back from the volunteer job - just did through lunchtime today. Won't be going back until Monday 'cause I have job search related stuff for the next coupla days.

Felt a little better about things today, especially as the other data entry gal was there and admitted to having to guess on some details, too. So...we just do the best we can. I can handle that.

Nice to feel somewhat useful again, even if it ain't fer pay.

Now...tomorrow I take the clerical test that may get me a job at the college, and Friday I interview for a position in Loveland, which isn't toooo terribly far away. I'd ruther work in town, but I guess I can't afford to be picky.

If I had arrived at work on time this morning, I'd be leaving just now. But alas. I'm going to sit here and be honorable about it. *harumph* :)
