Being prepared is nothing bad! And you didn't go overboard and stockpile gallons of propane in your house, right, like this one guy my family knew? We were afraid he was going to blow his family to Kingdom Come.
No, but we did keep hundreds of 2L bottles of water in the shop. We didn't use it but after Y2K a local community flooded badly, we piled it all in the back of our pick-up and gave it to them to use for things like wash water and such...not drinking water, although it was all right to drink. The Red Cross was giving them drinking water, but they needed clean washing water.
See, their wells got contaminated.
That's what my sister did on the Gulf Coast in MS , after Katrina. They didn't have power for a week, and she cooked stuff from the fridge first, then the freezer. I think they had plenty all week. She did go through the line to get ice and water, but didn't need the MRE's they were offering.
I take absolutley NO responsibility for that bad girl! ;o)
BTW $2.65/gal is a good price. The cheapest I've seen it here is $2.88, and it just came down to that in the last day or two.

After Fran everybody was grilling to beat the band....trying to eat the freezer food before it went bad. You couldn't find a bag of charcoal anywhere.
