The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Everyone gone to bed? My fault for being out too late.

So correct me if I'm wrong: the Gay and Lesbian club being mad at the anime club means we must be doing something right. No?

Louisiana's response to Katrina proved that you can't always rely on that competence being present.

That's because Louisiana's incompetence was a direct result of corrupt politics. The air traffic control situation worked out because those professionals knew that everyone in a plane was their responsibility, so it HAD to get done.

The most impressive thing about that day, to me, was the reaction of the people of Gander, Newfoundland. All of a sudden they had planeloads of people who needed to be put up for the night and fed. The entire town got together and made those stranded travelers welcome. I remember hearing right after 9-11 that one woman who was VEY pregnant was taken into the home of one of the townspeople so she wouldn't have to sleep on a cot at the facility set up for the folks.

That is downright neighborly!

I'm fixin to head to the bed. Just finished making another 10 Qts. of Seafood Gumbo for the Parish Family Festival that starts tomorrow night. Will make another batch early afternoon tomorrow and just take that one up there fresh in the slow cooker. The batches I made Wed. and Thurs. nights are in bags in the freezer, and I'll thaw them as needed.

Why on earth are the her-ems mad at the Anime club?

My experience is that once you have a "plan", a rulebook, a set of procedures, you have automatically built a box that's very hard to think outside of (horrible grammar). In fact, it may be literally a Federal Offense to act "outside the box". This squelches initiative and imagination, and no plan ever takes into account the unknowable.

I like to plan things in life; I have a plan for my upcoming housing situation. Those plans are fluid, however. For example, most of my moving is planned to be done piecemeal, with my little car, but I'll need a larger vehicle for my mattresses. I'm not going to rigidly say that I'll borrow a truck and move my mattresses on Dec. 17. How many things can you think of that would make that a really bad idea? I thought of three immediately.

I need more coffee.

TGIF! Running slow this morning. Had to get Joseph to school, and when I take Clare in a half hour, I have to get some more green peppers to make another batch of Gumbo! Thankfully, the Festival isn't running as late into the evening as it has in the last few years. I'll likely be home by 9!

This has been a most intriguing conversation to read, first thing this morning! Reminds me of my trip to Falls Creek, where we were turned aside by FEMA at the gate. It took 500 people 24 hours to get the place set up...but 2300 Baptists showed up to help.

Now you may think "Too many people can actually slow things down" but I wonder. I mean, this is just slightly more than is in just ONE of the two morning worship services at my church...and I think they could moblize just fine.

Anyway, the whole thing fell through...

I'm not sure what happened...the place was all set and ready for evacuees. A stuffed toy on each bed, even! The three bus-loads of evacuees that were on the way never materialized.

I don't know how they're finding out about him exactly...I think it must be from a job website related to the university.

Mornin'!

Rosie - what position did you apply for? I want to put in a referral this morning.

Oh, and I've already managed to be baited into a fight on that stupid nuclear family thread. ~sigh~

The first CSR position on the list.

You're the greatest, Ruthy!

Most of the guys on that thread don't seem to be in FAVOR of the nuclear family, from what little I read. They're the types that don't like women or children. So...it ain't worth arguing with 'em!
