Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I *loved* how they had tag-team sales people. Just like you said. One guy takes the fella over to fit the suit, the other runs interference with the lady to show her the shirts and ties. The lady goes ga-ga over the purty colors (something the fella doesn't want to be bothered with) and stays out of everyone's hair.
Brilliant business concept.
I really wish they ran ladies' shops like that. "Hi, I'm size N. What do you have that's blue?" and then the sales lady lays everything out on the table for you. That'd be so wonderful.
So how would that work in reverse? The sales person takes the woman over to look at dresses while another one distracts the guy with the lingerie selection? ooo pretty colors...

I'm reading "This Present Darkness"...I've never read it before and I've had it for forever...picked it up in the church library in the "free" box. Just picked it up and started reading it just a few weeks ago...
Man, can I relate...I feel like I've sure been in a battle!

I picked that up at the church yard sale a couple of years ago. Never read it.

Thank you!
Clarissa, my friend that was here yesterday, said she had been praying for me this past Sunday morning...I wonder if that is where my peace came from, when I talked to Celeste in the bathroom!
Remember how amazed I was at how calm I was? Heh!
Wouldn't surprise me.

Keepin you in my prayers that the words the Lord wants Celeste needs to hear will come from you; someone who cares about her.

That was a fun book, Peretti can tell a story but his writing is fairly dreadful. Not Left Behind dreadful, just inadequate.

This Present Darkness, by Frank Peretti, is among the classic novels of the Christian thriller genre. First published in 1986, Peretti's book set a suspenseful standard in spiritual warfare story-telling that has rarely been met by his contemporaries. Set in the apparently innocent small town of Ashton, This Present Darkness follows an intrepid born-again Christian preacher and newspaper reporter as they unearth a New Age plot to take over the local community and eventually the entire world. Nearly every page of the book describes sulfur-breathing, black-winged, slobbering demons battling with tall, handsome, angelic warriors on a level of reality that is just beyond the senses. However, Christian believers and New Age demon-worshippers are able to influence unseen clashes between good and evil by the power of prayer. Peretti's violent descriptions of exorcisms are especially vivid: "There were fifteen [demons], packed into Carmen's body like crawling, superimposed maggots, boiling, writhing, a tangle of hideous arms, legs, talons, and heads." This book is not for the squeamish. But for page-turning spiritual suspense, it's hard to beat.

I think they give the guy a PlayStation or have a sports channel on tv. Maybe they trank him so he doesn't notice how long it takes.
*snort* trying really hard not to think about guys buying lingerie. It's got to be practical, you know... at least for work and shopping and stuff...

OK...
Doesn't sound like my cup of tea. But now I remember hearing about it. Used to work with a guy who was a major Peretti fan.

I'm sorry, my common sense just rebels at the idea of guys buying, you know, everyday undies for their wives.

Let me tell you a story... (I'm chock full of 'em, as you know.)
During a primary campaign for our legislative representative, Celeste was all fired up about one candidate...kept telling me "You need to get involved with this guy's campaign!" and I didn't say anything, because I was already involved in his opponent's campaign...(primaries, you know). I never said a work, but I felt bad about it because I wanted to talk to her about why I was for the other guy but I knew she wouldn't listen.
Then one day she calls me up and is practically shouting on the phone "We're backing the wrong guy!" (Meaning her and me, she just assumed I was backing the guy too.) She said "We have to support the other guy!" That's when I informed her I had been already working on his campaign.
She said "KIM!! Why didn't you tell me!" And I said "Because you wouldn't have listened!"
So my point is, Celeste is capable of absolute U-turns, and even though she's in this pretty deep...I'm praying for a major U-turn.

I don't think everyday undies would be what caught the eye of the average guy, though.
There are other purposes for undies. *ahem* But anyway. Moving along...
