The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Here's their website: http://www.homerscoffeehouse.com/

I think it was named after someone (not Homer Simpson.)

Evening Hair, although I've seen it before, it certainly does deserve a posting. Truly beauracrazy at it's best.

We recently had a project that realigned a stream The stream had three beaver dams on it. Do I need to say that two have already been rebuilt at the stream's new location? God's little furry engineers, gotta love 'em. :-)

btw, I think gas is about $2.80-$2.90 around here. It's a bit more on OT's side of town.

That's usually the case, you gots higher gas taxes but better roads.

Homer's looks like a nice place, I'm pretty sure I know where it is.

It's just off Metcalf.....I always wondered what "Christian Blues" are.

So much for making a "joyful noise." :)

That's where I picture it, haven't been to that locale in a while, except for a lunch last year at the Chinese Place.

When we first moved to town, we lived at a bit north of there. Not too far from the BH place. 'Vey' convenient location. :-)

Gas went up to $3.30 in most places last week. This week it's creeping back down; $3.20 in those same places.

Really sounds strange to you? I'm pretty familiar with 'Christian Blues' - lots of Jazz influenced gospel played at the jazz and blues type festivals my mom was into. They had kickin' Sunday services during the jazz festivals at a Baptist church... where they handed you a fan when you walked in it got so hot in there! :~D Haven't you seen the Blues Brothers?

Christian music played with a blues scale, I can see - gospel blues type stuff is something I've heard.

It's just the idea of Christian Blues lyrics that could be funny..."Woke up this mornin'..."

Um...hmmm...where could it go from there?

..."Woke up this mornin'..."

Well, I wouldn't 'zactly call this the blues...

I woke up this morning feeling fine I woke up with heaven on my mind
I woke up with joy in my soul cause I knew my Lord had control
I knew I was walkin' in the light cause I'd been on my knees in the night
And I'd pray till the Lord gave a sign and now I'm feeling mighty fine

Well I'm feeling mighty fine I've got heaven on my mind
Don't you know I want to go where the milk and honey flow
There's a light that always shines down inside this heart of mine
I've got heaven on my mind and I'm feeling mighty fine

We're walking with Jesus all the time we're walking and talking as we climb
We're traveling a road to the sky where I know I'll live when I die
He's been telling me all about that land and he tells me that everything is grand
And he says that a home will be mine and now I'm feeling mighty fine

Oh I'm feeling mighty fine...
Oh I'm feeling mighty fine...

I woke up this morning
and I heard a disturbing sound!
I said I woke up this morning,
and I heard a disturbing sound!
What I heard was the jingle-jangle of a thousand lost souls.
And I'm talking about the soul of modern men and women, departed from this life.
Wait a minute, those lost jangle souls roamin' unseen over the earth,
seek the divine light, they'll not find.
Because it's too late...
too late yeah, too late for them to ever see again,

the light they once chose not to follow!
Alright, alright, don't be lost when the time comes.
For the day of the Lord cometh, as a thief in the night. Amen.

This is country, not blues, but maybe the idea is similar...

Revelation by Waylon Jennings

Somewhere in VietNam a 19-year-old soldier walked out of a barroom
And he said "I must be seeing things, that bourbon hit me like a baseball bat"
In Belfast Ireland a little lady dropped her shovel in her garden
She raced across the yard and asked her neighbor, "Mrs. Clancy, what was that?"
In Memphis Tennessee a teacher raised the window closest to the river
And the children in her classroom swore they'd heard a choir singing down the street
In Washington DC a private secretary's lips began to quiver
And the President just put aside his papers and rose quickly to his feet

I lay in a cheap motel in the arms of someone else's woman
When a loud explosion rocked the room and turned the morning into night
I jumped out of bed and ran into the street with hardly any clothes on
As the sky lit up my heart stood still and I could feel my face was turnin' white
All at once the clouds rolled back and there stood Jesus Christ in all his glory
And I realized the saddest eyes I'd ever seen were lookin' straight at me

I guess I was awakened by the penetrating sounds of my own screaming
And it didn't take me long to stumble out of bed and fall down on my knees
As tears rolled down my face I cried, "Dear God I'm thankful I was only dreaming!"
"And if I never go to hell, Lord, it'll be because you scared it out of me."

Watching the Texas at Ohio State game here, and yelling a lot (Texas is losing).

I did record one of the "Lost" commercials though, featuring Jack. Hopefully they'll put on another one before the game is done.

Yup, got 'em. Haven't looked at the special features yet - apparently some flashback bits cut from the finale and some interesting-looking documentaries.
