nully, is that for 'macular degeneration'? Yes.
How does one know that have that?
You don't, at first.
When is the usual onset?
Depends. It is age related, but other things (like diabetes) can bring it on.
Can an optometrist know this condition or must one go to an opthamalogist (sp)?
I think any optometrist who actually looks into your eyes could spot it. An ophthalmologist might have more skill at detecting it early.

There is something going on out on the road near my house. There are fire trucks and cops everywhere. Can't tell what they're doing, but they were there when I got up a little past 6 and they're still there. Lots of cars, too.

There really isn't anything there. It is a corner. There is a mini-storage on the lot, but the only thing in the area where they're congregated is one of those little shelter things where the kids can wait for the bus. Very strange. Probably be in the paper in the morning, or if I have any dealings with the cops today, I suppose I will find out.
