Where are you retiring and why?

Posted on 08/02/2005 2:29:28 PM PDT by Die_Hard Conservative Lady

Okay, this is my first vanity post, so let's just have some fun with it.... Where are you going to move when you retire, and why, is what this post is all about, I'm retiring in less than a year, and my husband and I are moving to the Ozarks and build a house on a lake.

Mexico.

I figure by the time I retire the place will be completely abandoned.

North Carolina or Tennessee, depending on which has the better tax situation then...lived in California all my life until about 12 years ago, when I moved to NC.

I live in a place in Texas where it's 15 degrees in Winter and 105 in Summer. It's great in Fall (besides its Texas Tech football season then) and tolerable in Spring, especially if you can drive down and see the bluebonnets.
I say Idaho or Montana in Summer for sure. Not sure about Winter, but Fall will be exactly where I am now.

"I'm retiring in less than a year, and my husband and I are moving to the Ozarks and build a house on a lake."

How are the RE prices there? Are you talking Branson, or somewhere else?

When my wife retires we plan to move north here in Michigan. We like it here.

NO State income or death taxes, beaches, thongs, golf and ocean. Pretty much in that order.

I'll find someplace that doesn't tax the life out of me.

Georgia, because of proximity to ocean and lower cost of living.

I'm going home, on the range....where the deer and the antelope play.

I'm going back to the 50 acre portion of my great grandfathers ranch that was left to me by my daddy. Yee Haw!

We're semi-retired and live deep in the Ozarks, came here from St. Louis. Very beautiful place, four full, clear seasons; nice people, low prices on nice houses.

I never want to live anywhere else...

Is there a rule that you have to move when you retire? Do we humans have to live out the Elephant Graveyard concept? Or is there a Del Boca Vista in everyone's future? The only thing that would make me move would be finances (cost of living here is getting sky-high), and I wouldn't move any further than necessary.

It won't happen for another 15yrs. but at present it's a toss-up between the Hill Country of Fredricksburg, Texas and the coastal area around Eureka, Kalh-lee-forn-ya. Of course if CA falls into the Pacific or goes bankrupt it'll be an easy decision.

Murray, Kentucky. A splendid little town with friendly people, low living costs, and some peace and quiet.
