I was just sitting here thinking about a 1500 mile drive I have to make, and contemplating burning a couple CDS for the drive. I found some music that would make it more interesting but not enough. So here is the question.
If you were going to drive from Phoenix to Indy, you were in a sports car, what music would you want to have on your cd?
I think perhaps Springsteen is your musical soulmate though. LOL
Dear GadareneDemoniac,
Here are a few I like to have on a long drive:
Spanish Dances compiled by Lucas Ruiz de Ribayaz.
Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. American in Paris, too. Maybe the Concerto in F Major.
A couple of Brandenburg Concerti (JS Bach), especially numbers 3 and 5. Although numbers 2 and 4 are also delightful. Heck, just bring the whole bunch - 1 - 6.
A couple or so of big Beethoven symphonies, especially numbers 5, 7, and 9. Maybe some piano sonatas.
Maybe a CD of all the Two and Three Part Inventions (JS Bach). Glenn Gould did a masterful version of these (although he does the Two-Part Invention in A Minor too fast for my taste).
Some Handel, lots of Vivaldi (but not necessarily the Four Seasons - I have a CD of a bunch of mandolin concerti - very nice), some Mozart, maybe some Offenbach and Rossini, something Renaissance - I have a CD of dances by Michael Praetorius.
More JS Bach.
Some Strauss (all), especially waltzes, especially, of course, the Blue Danube.
Some Telemann, Couperin, and maybe just a little Debussy. Only a little. Just to spice things up.
And Mendelsohn's Italian Symphony, of course. ;-)

I also like to put on my cav hat with the crossed sabers and put in a CD of "Ride of the Valkyries."
BTW, this old soldier forgot to salute his captain awhile ago. Sorry about that.
I also, blush, it's true, like hip hop & rap (some - not all, I'm aware of lyrical issues). And a lot of 'Latino' music. I know I'll think of more.
my favorites! these two pieces are what got me interested in "classical" music.
don't laugh.....we drove to Florida and put in Abba Gold.
"Eine kleine Nachtmusik"
Mozart anticipated rolling wheels.
Dear ZinGirl,
The third concerto is my all-time sentimental favorite piece of music, even if it is missing a proper second movement. ;-)
The first time I heard the fifth (I was maybe 10), it took my breath away.

me, too....no kidding....and I didn't know there were 5 others! 5 is my fav, followed by 3, then 6, then 4.
Lots of good music mentioned,I'd suggest Gov't Mule,Widespread Panic[any of their CD's,Sonny Landreth-Grant Street[bad ass],Drive By Trucker's-The Dirty South,Robin Trower's-Bridge of Sighs and New Riders of the Purple Sage and Commander Cody's Lost Planet Airmen. All of what I jam a lot to these days crusin.
(I should add I was about 19 or so by the time I heard them....since I had pointedly shunned that "boring" music in my early teens!)
Dear ZinGirl,
Would you like to be added to the Classical Music ping list? It's a very small list to which we ping quite infrequently.
But it's a lot of fun to belong to such an exclusive club!! LOL!!!

The Doobie Brothers Greatest Hits.
Dear ZinGirl,
"(I should add I was about 19 or so by the time I heard them....since I had pointedly shunned that "boring" music in my early teens!)"
LOL!!
Although I listened to a lot of rock and roll in my youth, my love has always been classical music, from the time I was very little.

I Second that motion. Sirius Satelite Is required for long road trips. The only way to go.
;)
sure...what the heck.
My girls are forced to listen to various bits. However, i tend to lean towards the more baroque...even souped-up baroque stuff....like BOND...which I refer to as 'classical on caffeine'. My music-snob brother does not call it music at all....he's also the one who has a t-shirt that says 'friends do not let friends drink white zinfandel'...which, well, by my screen name....ummmmmm.....
Dear ZinGirl,
"However, i tend to lean towards the more baroque."
Oh, don't worry, by classical, we mean, "The Greatest Music of the Last Thousand Years." (<<====== That's a rip-off from XM Radio's classical station 110)
My own preference is the Baroque era, as well. My favorite is, of course, JS, himself. Then the Red Priest.
Let me add you to the list!
