Word For The Day, Thursday, July 21, 2005 - propinquity



In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

propinquity \pruh-PING-kwih-tee\, noun
1. Nearness in place; proximity.
2. Nearness in time.
3. Nearness of relation; kinship.

Following the race he took umbrage at Stewart's rough driving so early in the day, and the propinquity of the two drivers' haulers allowed the Kid to express his displeasure up close and personal.

Etymology: Propinquity derives from Latin propinquitas, from propinquus, "near, neighboring," from prope, "near."
Synonyms: proximity, vicinity, nearness.

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

OMG, have they seen the horror pix of celebrities like farah fawcett or burt reynolds??? are they willing to take that chance? i mean those people can afford the best plastic surgeons in the universe and THAT is how they turn out???

How nice of him to have turned himself in/sarcasm. But it is much nicer for those of us with small children who have been living within close propinquity to this pervert. The town where he has been living is the next town over from me.

They look awful! I wouldn't have any sort of surgery unless it was for medical reasons.

I dislike surgery and all it encompasses when it is for medicl necessity........no way would I opt for something elective.
