This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Yeah, one of the vets I've used before did it for my cats. He drew up the doseage, so I don't know how much, but I don't think it'll take care of tapes, unless Safeguard 3 is something new that does tapes too. He used regular Safeguard but I had to give a separate pill for tapes in addition to the Safeguard.
Oh, just buck up and go mingle with real people!....Seriously though, you'd probably enjoy it. Meeting new people and new horses is a blast. There'll always be a couple of yahoos in any group, but you can just ignore them. And like you said, you'll get to go to places that you didn't know about before. After that, if you don't like it, you can always quit. The dues to most clubs around here are about $10 a year, so it's no great loss if you do.
Thanks.... I need that - I have serious hermit tendencies! :~D
We have three chapters of BCH here, I don't know which to join, but I like to support the trail maintenance, lobbying and education efforts of the organization as a whole. I just don't get why there's three groups in this area. The politics in these groups is always convoluted, and Bob has belonged and/or been president of a couple of these groups. He's kindof a polarizing figure, and many times when I meet people on trail and mention him, I get the nod.... 'oh yeah, Bob.... I know him.... silence'
I sit and say - OK is this the club that was fighting over the well installation at the campsite, or is this the group that was fighting over whether or not to host organized rides because of their damage to trails? Heck - I don't know why, I've just been told these meetings are always full of contention. ;~D
I'll have see it. I just started Summer of the Monkeys with the kids.
Ask your friends if they want to go to Crawford. There is a support the troops rally there this weekend. It's almost close enough for them to ride their horse:')
Cute kitty! Looks like he's having a grand ol' time with the rat. I've caught 9 mice in my kitchen cabinets since Sunday. I don't know where they all came from, but most of them have been babies, so there's a mama and daddy mouse somewhere. It's been a real hoot let me tell ya. You'd think that with two cats in the house I wouldn't have a mouse problem. I think the little buggers are living under the cabinets and never come out, but when I started putting glue traps in the cabinets, I hit the jackpot. I even caught one of the cats in one. My husband forgot the traps were in there and let one of the cats in the cabinets to "hunt". I was watching TV and heard this awful commotion and my husband was hollering "Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!" like there was a horse in the house. I went running in the kitchen to find the cat in the floor with a glue trap stuck to one front foot and one back foot and my husband trying to hold her still so she won't get the rest of her body stuck to it. I got it pulled off and she walked around the rest of the night shaking her feet like she had something on them. It was really funny!
Remember the glue trap-bird-in-the-hair scene from "Forget Paris"? Hilarious.
We've got one cabinet we get mice in too, even though we never keep food in there. We bought snap traps, and got two in there. We've also left the doors open on occasion for the cat to go in, but must remember now to close them!
LOL! The same reason why there's 3 Baptist Churches within spitting distance of each other around here. ;o) It's like you say, the members get into disagreement over something and part of them decide to take their toys and go somewhere else. It's really kinda silly. They would have much more influence and much less duplication of effort if they worked out their differences, but you just can't tell some people anything.
Darn, I haven't seen that one, but it sounds hilarious. I'll have to make a note to rent that one.
I'm really sad today, Juma got sold. Some lady in Morrilton, AR bought him. I was hoping my next door neighbor would get him.
Becky, I've told my husband over and over that I wanted to make money in the horse business, at the very least to support it as a hobby. He keeps telling me I'm crazy, that if I try to turn it into a business, I'd soon hate it.
Good Lord a mighty that's a big horse!
It's a funny movie I'd recommend overall, Billy Crystal, Debra Winger.
Oh no on Juma.... I hope it's at least a good place for him, and you'll be able to keep track of where he is.
I made note of the lady's name and town and I also have Juma's registration number. I should be able to keep track of him.
You're telling me.
I am working with him most nights, have to put him on a longe line to work out kinks and then ride slllooowwwllly.....around the pasture.
I'm supposed to be getting him ready for the Bandera Parade in Sept, they run Longhorns through town.
He's really gentle, he just hasn't been ridden in 5 years.
Anything like Pamplona??? I'd like to see some cowboys get their Levis ripped off by raging bulls! ;o)
You need to post that during a Zotting. That's a great picture.
All those type of clubs are going to have problems, and fussing. Most of them welcome guests also, when I go, which is seldom, I'm not big on organized rides, I always just go as a guest. That way you don't have to be a part of or get sucked into the politics of the group.
Personally, I just perfer to ride with who I choose to and not be part of an organization. But you should go, just don't join:)
Well, Julia the lady I rode with this morning, who was looking at Rusty, still might buy him. She's as wishy washy as me huh:). I'm am taking him over to her house tonight and if he stays calm while I ride him in her front yard she says she'll buy him.
I talked to her today, and she has thought over buying a horse for her daughter who is starting college and working full time. She's figuring out the kid won't have much time to ride, they she will have a horse that she and her beginner rider husband won't be comfortable with.
She hashed it out the whole time we were riding, and by the time we got back, she had decided buying Rusty would be the smart thing to do. She's so afraid of getting a bucking horse. She has only come off a horse 2 times and that's been in the last year, and the horses bucked. I told her I could not guarantee that Rusty would never buck, you can't make that guarantee with any of them, but that he had only bucked one time with me, if you could even call it a buck, and that was several years ago, when I was really pushing him on the run back after the third barrel. He has never bucked just trail riding.
Anyway, if he goes over there tonight and does great like he has the other times she tried him, and she doesn't go ahead and take him......well there is liable to be an explosion in this area:)....I'm not playing any more games with her. I wouldn't be doing this, but I'd really like to sell him, and her situation would be perfect. I'll give it this last try.
Becky
