The Dragon Flies' Lair~Thread XXI~
June 26, 2005 | bentfeather/Poets of the Lair

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

We can always start a Mars thread. Mars is always out there. LOL

Sorry you could not sleep. I have nights like that, too.

So glad the kids clothes came in.

Oh my, how heart wrenching. People waiting for kids clothes.

My mom was so good about helping me with my kids. She would go to the Thrift Store and buy nearly new clothes for my kids at a good price. I sewed many of their clothes through out the years. Just had to, not much money to go around.

Going into stores just might work. Sometimes folks have things they don't know how or where to give them.

I just have to be 5 people.St Vincent had someone go knock on the doors.I need someone like that. These clothes are for people who escaped the clan wars in Liberia. When they come to our country they rent containers on boats and fill them up and ship clothes and household items back to help their families.

Yupper! I love the competition. A lady in the audience loved my poem, she took my picture. I asked her for a copy, but have not yet received it. I hope she does not forget.

Hey ya'll!! Old Sarge tried to post his poem to FR this morning and couldn't get it to post, so he sent it to me in FReepmail and I'm posting it here for him! Enjoy!!

Iron City

I’ve been asked the question, and been given the suggestion,
to talk about our life so far away,
So, with as much impunity as allowed in our community,
Here’s how it is, a blueprint for our day.

It’s more than we merited, the place that we inherited
that our brothers built with muscle, sweat and toil,
but by design or fate, this is now OUR real estate,
now watch as Iron City grows in the dusty soil.

With cunning and common sense, we have seen to our defense,
earthen walls surround us from the waters to the sands,
and inside the buildings old, that the shelling pierced and holed,
cribs and hooches form with lots of helping hands.

There’s shelter from the squalls, pinup girls adorn some walls,
hand-drawn pictures say “I Love You, Daddy” on the door.
Music thumps and blares, through the halls and down the stairs,
Xbox gamers fight in chairs, or on the floor.

Here in Iron City, now, I know I’m sounding witty
when I tell you that we make the best of things,
as we spend our nights and days in the gyms and Web cafés,
staying fit and watching what our email brings,

But combat’s nearby medley is all too serious and deadly,
and there’s excitement enough to fill your heart’s desire,
but we’re all a team and crew, and that’s the feeling I had, too,
when it came my turn to go outside the wire.

It was about at half-past eight, I stood at Iron City’s gate,
waiting in the sun with patience for my ride,
then we closed the doors up tight, and made sure that all was right,
before we ventured through the gate and rode outside.

I saw no combat patch on the soldier in the hatch,
but I saw the truth that needs no fancy speech,
when I saw and felt the smolder in the eyes of that young soldier,
as she jacked another round into the breech.

The Euphrates met my eye, as the convoy speeded by,
bringing this land its waters and its streams,
and once our task was done, we rode off into the sun,
and I was thinking while I heard the engines’ screams,

and I beheld the dusty, gritty, fortress walls of Iron City,
and went walking later, lit by moon and star,
when the fighting isn’t through, and there’s yet a job to do,
that it doesn’t really matter where you are.

So I spend my days and nights under Iron City’s lights,
while others say this trip’s already tiresome,
as I’m puffing on my pipe, and I’m living the soldier’s life,
Iron City is my Home Away From Home.

I like your poem.I can see Mary as the fair maiden as she looks for her real love.I would like to see the pictures of you reading. That takes a lot of courage.I had to give a little talk a month ago to my peers in the pro-life radio-TV-and print people and also the active volunteer's.It is harder to speak to your peers.

Well, I have had a lot of practice. I have been reading for years in poetry groups and other functions.

I never get nervous. I just stand up there as though I am in my right mind and read. LOL

I think those of us with daughters see those things for them. I know I did for my girls, some of them got gnomes, some trolls and some of them got really good men. :)
