What was the last CD you listened to? (Music recommendations? Memories? Etc...)

Hello FR music fans. A light hearted thread for FReepers to discuss what music they have been listening to lately (old and new). It might be cool to be exposed to new music or old music that others might not have heard. Since I don't have a life, I'm home on a Saturday night listening to my local rock station (WRIF -Detroit).

Some fool client gave me Time-Life's "The Folk Music Years" and rats, I listened to one and became addicted to New Christie Minstrels, Chad Mitchell Trio and Lovin' Spoonful all over again. I think I'll commit myself.

The Carpenters' THE SINGLES. Karen Carpenter had one of the most divine, haunting voices ever.

Last song I listened to was "Zippo Hero" by Seven Dead Monkeys.

I got it from a link on here in another post. It's a real cute song.

I always surprise Marillion fans when I tell them I'm a big fan of "Holidays in Eden". I thought it was a good mix of "accessible" music and progressive rock. Also a bit heavier for Marillion in some places.

I'm likely the only Freeper listening to Jeremy Soule's music. You can listen to some previews here at: Direct Song. Click on products, click on More Info and preview some of it. It's neat stuff, well orchestrated.

That said, I'm musically confused. I can flip from Megadeth to Vanessa Carlton and back to Pink Floyd in the space of 15 minutes and enjoy all of it.

Does it have to be rock and roll? The last CD I listened to this p.m. was "Louis Prima: Capitol Collectors Series," his prime stuff from the late '50s and early '60s. A lot of folks might dismiss this stuff as Las Vegas schmaltz, but give it a try, a lot of today's heavy metal bands only wish they rocked that hard. FYI, the guy who put this particular compilation together for Capitol was Dennis Diken, drummer of the Smithereens, he and the entire band are big-time Prima fans.

I also don't go far without a little Skynard. I love the "working for MCA" album.
