The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Rosie 'n me finished Lost tonight - her first time through, my second. Noticed a lot more this time. Mostly little things. And I think I understand peoples' motives a bit better this time. Hopefully next season lives up to this one...

Hopefully next season lives up to this oneWell, we'll see... hopefully it will last better than J.J. Abram's other series, "Alias". In that one, the "big secret" turned out to be just a series of MacGuffins. It's still an entertaining series, but never getting a real payoff gets tiring.

Yeah. I mean, they really need to explain a few things. And not be so darn secretive about other things. Like would it kill you to tell us what Kate did in the first place? (although I have no sympathy for her, her flashbacks and island actions make me think she's both stupid and selfish) Or just one thing about the island, the Others, the hatch, the polar bears, the monster, the numbers - anything, instead of tantalizing us forever?

He's not "handsome" in the formal sense of the word, but he's a great actor to watch. He did the most awful Southern accent in Con Air, but I loved that movie! Watched part of it this afternoon while we were cruising channels.

Did you see him in Bringing Out the Dead? That was, surprisingly, a good movie!

See, that's what happened with "Alias"... there was a lot of intriguing stuff concerning a Renaissance artist named Rambaldi who apparently knew some future stuff, including super technology. A lot of the series events were concerned with recovering Rambaldi artifacts... but ultimately the audience never learns what the secret behind Rambaldi really is. I hope he doesn't go that way with "Lost".

Maybe he learned his lesson.
I just hope, if we're adding new survivors, that the show doesn't decide to focus on them. Now that I know these guys, I want to see them interact and do new things. Sure, two or three newbies sounds good. But there's still lots to find out about Our Heroes.

Good Mornin'
Good garage saling yesterday. Picked up SimCity 4 for $2.00...it's still retailing for $30. Sort of wanted to pick up a sofa sleeper/loveseat (actually two reclining chairs connected by an arm-rest/remote compartment) tagged at $75; but the cushions were ripped and a portion of the structure appeared puppy-chewed.

Remember these?
They went Garage saling too and (with small prior donations from Uncle* ExGeeEye) made a few not-very-foolish selections. Books, mostly, and a Daffy Duck VHS from, I dunno, 1985 or something :)
After that,

Swimming!
(We'll save the museum for a bad-weather day.)
*An honorary title. I have been adopted, seemingly.

Good Morning, gots a bunch of orange cones in the road one block up. The water guys are tearing up the street. We gots water so far, so that's good.
Need to water and do a bit gardening, the joepye needs another loop of tie ups, the feathering is coming along nicely. Rubekia is getting ready to bloom.
On the nayber front, we now have their 'new' speed boat parked in front of thehouse. We'll be waiting to see them try to back it in to their carport/garage. (insert popcorn gif) :-)

Good morning!
Good luck with your triathlon, Talon!
I'm hanging out for a few hours and then going on a bus trip with a group from the church. We're going to Denver to see some of the older churches there, and then out to eat, and then ultimately to Mass at the cathedral. I'm looking forward to it. I've never seen Archbishop Chaput in person, but he's a good guy - doesn't mind tickin' people off. ;-) I like that.
It's another sunny day, albeit another hot one. Supposed to be 95 here...wonder if Denver will be hotter or cooler. Not that a few degrees in either direction would make much differece.

Good Morning Rosie, well, warmer in CO than MO; that doesn't happen a lot. Stay cool and enjoy the trip, sounds like a good one.
Talon-well, a triatholon and Rochester in one day, just keeps getting better doesn't it. :-)
EGE - a day at the pool or a museum, good call on the swimming.

I stayed home from church today just because I could. Well, that and the fact that I hate the song the choir was singin'.
Doin' some work. Mostly inside lest the naybers think I'm a heathen.
