Yah... I guess the thing actually happened Friday night, but it has taken a while to find its way out to the various networks.
He's not really sure what happened. His current hypothesis is that gas fumes were touched off by the hot exhaust. As yet, there's no other good explanation.
The car was a Ferrari 308 GTS. Not among the hottest of Ferrari's, but still a nice ride... and he'd got it used some years ago and done a lot of restoration and refit himself. It was in very nice condition when this happened. Quite sad, really.
I saw that! Steve and I were commenting that someone had some courage going over there and yanking that gasline out!
Anyway, good night!
Lotta times insurance will only insure them for what they're actually worth...you know, deprectiation and all...(sp?)
I know my Bug, even though it might mean a lot collector-wise, it's not going to be insureable for all that much...maybe a couple thou.

Whoops. Sorry about that.
No soup for you!
;-)
Yah. In this case the car was only worth from about 30K to 40K as restored (a new Ferrari would be an order of magnitude greater loss). Not bad for a 1977 car, but not outrageous for a Ferrari, though of course it is pretty much only collectors that are the ones interested in this sort of vintage. He paid something like 20 or better for it as a project car several years ago, then did the restoration himself. He'd never gotten insurance on it other than liability.
Bummer.
If that one was available locally, I'd make an offer.
Automotive oddities are a weakness of mine. Economics forbids.

We've got a new mass spec in the lab ...We're naming it Gracie to go with our mass spec "George." I'm listening to the "Burns and Allen" radio show. Think I'll put an episode on the shared drive for the people who don't know who George and Gracie are.
