The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Say... anybody see that footage tonight of a guy with a Ferrari at a gas station in Bellevue... and the there's this big explosion as the gas catches fire and then the car catches fire??
It was just on CNN, and Fox, and E! News...
Well, the guy is sitting here at da waterin' hole next to me, grieving over the loss of his Ferrari. Apparently it wasn't insured, exept for liability.
Bummer.

You would not believe!!
Yesterday, we went to the peach orchard that our friends own. We bought a half dozen nice peaches from their stand and they GAVE us one and a half BUSHELS of #2 peaches! These are peaches that aren't quite perfect, but still just fine.
SO FAR, we have put by 24 pints of frozen peaches and 12 pints of peach jam. And that's about a third of what we have! We have a massive amount of peaches!
Steve had a dental appt this afternoon, so he came home early and we've been dealing with this all afternoon and evening!
I just don't think I had a clear idea how much 1.5 bushels was!

And guess what else?? (I had a good day!)
I have been wishing for years for a countertop sprouter. But I never wanted one bad enough to pay for the one I wanted...this one. I mean, $20 bucks or so...no way.
I found it at the thrift store, with seeds and instructions and everything, for 59 cents! HA HA HA!! Oh man, what a great day!
Matthew found a 7Up UnCola glass...you know, an upside down coke glass? He got it for 25 cents. I have seen them at antique stores, but never priced them.
I've had a great day!
