Okay, so I should be writing advertising copy for radio...
I just heard a commerical about a company that does steel structures for buildings. It was a simulated phone conversation.
Woman actually says to the man "you'll have it erect in half the time..."
It's not a privacy concern, I just would be leery about recommending corrective work on a dog unless I know how far he's going to take it. If he's all noise and easily cowed, I'd just make it a two person job for now, sit him in a corner where he can't back up, open his mouth by grabbing his upper and lower jaw and curl his own lips over the teeth and hold them open. If he's truly fearful, he's more dangerous, and I'd worry about pushing him. Your faces are very close to him then and if he snaps, he may go for your face. But if you have a jaw in each hand and hold it open, he can't overpower you.
If he's just lolling and squirming, then have the other person, with gloves on if you're worried about it, stick it right at the back of the tongue and throat and push down. Have them pull the hand back fast after pushing down then let go, because it'll force a swallow and impulse to close his jaw.
He's never gonna love it, and the more you punish, the more resistant he'll get. Over all, if this is a daily med, I'd find something more pleasant for both of you, give him a treat, pill, and treat to finish so you don't leave him with the yicky pill taste.
There is a more corrective measure where you actually pull his own tongue out so he has to bite his tongue if he bites, but that's more of a fight than I'd have you do. I'd just try to desensitize him by working on getting in his mouth a couple times a day with no pill.
He seems to tolerate the joint supplement, which is the long term one.
He didn't pull away from me this morning, but growled and started to snap. I don't think he's afraid. Just stubborn.
I sure wish today wasn't Monday. I hate Mondays.
Well, stubborn I'm familiar with... ;~D
Logan used to clamp his mouth shut with all his might and refuse to open, but once I got my hand in there he'd rather die than bite me.
Homer just panics over any kind of forcible medicating... he squirms and cries and fights like we're trying to kill him. But when we were trying to inspect his ears during the infection, we pushed him pretty hard and he never acted like he was gonna snap. We were treating him pretty timidly until then, because we didn't really know him well enough to know what he'd do in a panic.
Dogs...
I want a nice big dog someday. Cats just don't quite do it. Though Rosie's cats are psycho and bizarrely affectionate, for cats.
I love dogs, but I love my kitty too.... and there is something very soothing about a purring cat, more soothing than a dog. My kitty laying on my purring will put me right to sleep.
I want a Golden someday.
But having cats that come when called and are happy to play and be held anytime...that's not a bad compromise! Even if they are psycho. It keeps things interesting.
Tam is trying to get me to chase him right now. I think Halvah is in a lazy mood, and he's driving her up the wall. What else is new?
My cat clawing my face will wake me right up.
Very soothing, until you sit on it. Then watch out. Sheesh.
(Just kidding, Rosie!)
But the trouble with tribbles is that they reproduce so quickly.
Oh, yeah, and they don't pounce. The original of the tribble - Heinlein's 'flat cat' - liked to land on peoples' faces.
Heh...depends on the cat.
I'm kinda glad Tam has managed to lose all of his, though. He's vey insistant when he wants to play fetch.
And he's taken to peeping. If I find him in the bathtub again...
Yeah - there's that too ;~D
Peeping Tam?
Shudder. Yes. And then he just stares at you, the little critter.
I can make sure Sam gets his medicine. I'm just concerned what will happen while we're gone.
Nana will attempt to see to it. But she can't force him to do anything. And wife's sister won't put much effort into it.
Then again, Nana ~did~ teach Sam to go out on his own.
I know she fell from grace, but Paula Poundstone's routine about the cats watching her in shower is hysterical.
Okay, I'm outta here.
One more night meeting (in Harrisonburg) and I'm done with this round. It's about two hours away.
Tomorrow night "Evita" (and tomorrow is our primary).
We leave for Kentucky on Wednesday afternoon.
If'n it ain't too late I'll check in when I get home tonight.
