The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 06/01/2005 7:12:04 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Afternoon OT - yup, seen the edge of the radar; well, we haven't had any rain in about six hours, should be due for some more. LSA informed me we've had over six inches of rain in the first twelve days of June and the day ain't over yet. A bit better than the three plus inches over the past two months.

G'nad, got the ball pulled and went to the muzzleloader shoot. 37th Annual Shoot-fest. The campers in tents looked 'damp' the tin-teepee crowd less so. Glad the lot was graveled this year.

Rosie-have you and Jen checked out the local shooting range yet?

Corin, looked really hard but didn't see the Jaws shark in the water. You sure that is your sunday in the park. :-)

whoa, that bites big time. And for that price it didn't even include those 'spinn'r' thingies, did it?
When we moved here, there was a house across the street, not the one Pat Matheny grew up in, but the other one, the guy had two tractor tires in his front yard. He had filled 'em with dirt and planted flowers in them, and, as an added accent, had painted the treads different colors. Just a thought :-)

Oh well....at least you weren't as bad as one of the neighbors.

The wind is blowing, it's getting dark, and lightning is off in the distance. That's when he decides to start mowing his back yard.

Not yet! We've done some on-line research into that, as well as into local gun laws, which are pretty lenient...but that's as far as we've gone.

Shoot-fest...sounds like fun, except for the rain...

I got "Raising Arizona" to watch tonight.

Hope Jen doesn't turn me out of the house when it's over...

Another one of those online tests people here might enjoy:

What military aircraft are you?

F-15 Eagle

You are an F-15. Your record in combat is spotless; you've never been defeated. You possess good looks, but are not flashy about it. You prefer to let your reputation do the talking. You are fast, agile, and loud, but reaching the end of your stardom.

I ~love~ Raising Arizona!

"Son, you got a panty on your head."

"Do these balloons blow up into funny shapes?"
"Not unless round is funny."

"All right, everybody freeze! On the ground!"
"Well, which is it, young feller? I mean, if'n I freeze, I can't rightly drop, and if'n I drop I'm a'gonna be in motion."

What military aircraft are you?

EA-6B Prowler

You are an EA-6B. You are sinister, preferring not to get into confrontations, but extract revenge through mind games and technological interference. You also love to make noise and couldn't care less about pollution.

I don't know where they got "love to make noise" from.

What military aircraft are you?

F/A-22 Raptor

You are an F/A-22. You are technologically inclined, and though you've never been tested in combat, your very name is feared. You like noise, but prefer not to pollute any more than you have to. And you can move with the best.

There were a lot of questions I didn't like any of the answers to. Seems kinda...liberally biased. But the Raptor is purty, so I won't complain...
