The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I get annoyed while sitting through movies in Chinese. The language gives me a headache.

Ack! I know! It's like they've got a different word for ~everything~. :-)

Evening Sam - meant to ping you to post 2683.

I just prefer the lines of the octagonal barrel, harkens to early Henrys and Winchesters. A classic look, if you will.

The Marlin 336 is fine rifle, easily scoped, and accurate. The .35 Rem is great woods cartridge as well. Never got its due recognition.

Your brother's rifle probably has more value than you think, the half round half octagonal was never made in great numbers. What model and cal.?

I would be ok if I could hear the words. But I have trouble hearing where one ends and the next begins, which is why I get a headache.

Also it's not, to my ears, a beautiful language.

I can't remember the model and cal! Anyhow, I'll check it next time I'm at the old home place. We own the gun together, strangely. Then again, we are twins.

Good night, everyone.

...

I'm usually too busy reading the captions to bother with listening to the language.

The octagonal barrels are nifty... sorta retro, and I think that's why they're reprising now. I do like Marlin's lever actions.

I have a Marlin Golden Mountie .22LR that my dad bought in about 63, and then gave me for my tenth birthday. That one is round barrel, of course. It's still one of my favorites to go out and shoot. Dang pleasant.

Thenuggets went from 10am to 8pm without any feed today. My goal is 8am to 8pm. This slows down their growth and keeps them from developing complications from too abrupt growth. It means an extra week, probably...but hopefully healthier birds.

It also has them doing the bulk of their eating during the cooler nighttime hours, thus reducing the strain on their hearts from eating during the heat of the day.
