The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Worth more than the entire Shire, IIRC!

Hmm, question, question...

What was Gandalf's name in the south?

While looking at the Winchesters, check out the new Marlin lever actions. .44 Mag and .357 Mag. with octagonal barrels, that's the way they should be IMO.

Gonna be awhile before I can look at anything, but I'm writing all this stuff down, just in case!

Yup, make 'em from scratch. Okay, I gotta start with a tree. :-)

Been doing it for a while now, serviceable but not works of art. Sam Cree made his and some for his family last Christmas.

Gotta go install pool lights in the a.m.

But... it'll be light then.

I like that one a whole lot! It's hard to find places with high-speed internet and big screen tvs.

I have an old Marlin 336 in .35 that's somewhere between 30 and 40 years old, I think. Hasn't got an octagonal barrel, though. It used to be a boat gun, but I did shoot my first deer with the thing. My brother and I bought an old Winchester lever action whose barrel is half round and half octagonal (octagonal near the receiver). Not a very valuable gun, but one that dates from the early part of the 20th century.

So tell me about the new Marlins and why octagonal is good.

Evening, everyone.

Heh, no, no one had asked those questions yet! And, even though I remember the event where they came up, I can't remember the answers!
