*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

The summer of 1980 we had unbelievable record heat here. Several days of over 110 heat and over 60 days straight of over 100. That year, I was driving home from work at midnight (I was a directory assistance operator) and was looking forward to having the windows down because they kept the phone office so friggin' cold. It was still 98 degrees at midnight, I had to use the air conditioner. Now that's hot!

I was wondering why that dog always carried a stick everywhere she went! Even when she's following me anywhere, she has a stick.

I've never had a lab before so I didn't think of these things. I just thought she was stoopid. Now I realize the dumb butt was me!

My neighbor and her husband are far, far left enviromentists. One day I was talking to her (we avoid politics). My now deceased female Lab found a young bird under the pine tree near by. All you could see, were this little feet sticking out of her mouth. My neighbor tried to get her to drop it. The dog just looked up at her, and went "crunch"...lol She stills mentions it from time to time. It really freaked her out, but I got a charge out of it.If we were outside with company, she would go to the barn and fetch anything she could find to carry back to "show off".

The male I have now, does none of this. He loves water, but does not retrieve. He was a year old when I adopted him, and maybe the former owners didn't play with him much.

Heh... well, some of the show bred labs have lost something in the breeding...

Mine retrieved, and I hunted with him, but he was more pretty than talented... and more honest than smart.

Hahaha! That sounds exactly like something a dog would do! :-)

Rose, I was reading your profile page, and if you miss fish and chips, if you're ever up along the Mass. or Maine coast, we have wonderful fish and chips. They're almost a staple.

Can one of yall draw where you should give shots in the neck...

I don't think anybody's responded to this one yet, so this is my 2 cents. I give IM shots in the triangle in Blue, IV shots where the red arrow points...

Thank you Beaker, but it's a long way for a meal! We have some places here that sell fish and fries but ur, they are not quite the same to say the least! : I make my own most times and use beer batter.

I'm ashamed to say the "crunch" would have done me in and I would be a dribbling mess in the corner ready for the men in white coats to come and get me! : )

Thanks. That's what I saw in a book too. It's hard to tell with the head up like that but she drew me a larger triangle (I think). It looks like we were both in the acceptable range. Just opposite though. Are there landmarks you use?

I'm sitting here eating a piece of cake. I know better but I'm having a really bad day and I have 5 days to get it off and .....
Saw your post about pools. Academy has an 18 ft/48 inch for 239 dollars. I'm going to get one when I get paid Friday. I figure I can keep it half full and fill it up on weekends .

Hah, I think it was the summer of 82 when Elena blew in. Took the roof up on our mobile home. We had no electricity or water for two weeks. Talk about hot. We waited in the grocery parking lot for ice. It never went inside. We all bought it off the truck when the driver made his rounds.

We got the taller pool, but in a way we we had gone for a 48 inch one, cause Emma and Jacob could stand in it without being underwater!
This is the first time we have ever had a real pool and it is not an expensive one. I love it and now it is warm enough, deaconjim and I will jump in it in the evenings (around) midnight too. Try yours when the water warms up, there is nothing more refreshing than a midnight swim under the stars! : D
