*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Maybe I should be more patient. Okie a two person load. His ass mine. I don't even have to pop him anymore though. I just show him the lounge whip or brush him with it and he goes in. I have tried and tried patience and reasoning and I always run out. I've been working on swinging the whip back with my left hand as I lead with the right but I mess up. I did a lot of reading on this trip and one chapter was about you can make a horse do something but it doesn't teach them but I figured he was the exception because he's so smart and has learned to "move it" or else. I start out caring if he wants to but after awhile....

They are tiny little firecrackers all roped together. You are supposed to unravel and light them one at a time. I light packages. Most cool:')

I've seen butt ropes get horses hurt more often than I've seen them help. Horses are too strong to really be forced to do anything they don't want to do.

Glad after that your rides were nice for the weekend!

My oldest son is very dark. He won't grow a beard though because it comes in red.

Well, the right 'want' can sometimes be encouraged... ;~D

With butt ropes on adult horses, though, I've just seen it go bad more than well. If a horse pulls back no rope is going to stop him, even if it means he goes down or breaks something. Foals, you can force to do things... labradors, you can force to do things... Adult horses, you really can't. Anyone who has ever seen one hit full panic knows that.

Totally not horsey related but you have put that "guy falkes' thing in my wee brain now and it wont go away!
There was a song that we would all sing on leaving school for the holiday that included bonfire night.
It went;
We break up
We break down
We don't care if the school falls down.
No more English
No more French
No more sitting on the old school bench.
If a teacher interferes,
We shall jolly well
Box her ears.
If that does not do the trick.....
Dynamite is just as quick! Little angels weren't we!

LOL!

Remember, remember
The Fifth of November,
Gunpowder treason and plot.
There is no reason
Why Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!

A red beard is ok. I do not like to grow one because it itches .
