*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I had a good ride on Saturday but forgot the camera again. Sorry 'bout that. I promise to do better next time, honest!

This is just not good enough.... You have failed us, and you must pay! :~D

Cool crawdad though!

Well, I'll take it, but the pictures don't turn out all that well in this arena you know. Not much to see. I did find out last night tho, that my camera has a night setting, will that help?

Becky

My father is coming with me to the barn on Thursday, and I'm going to make him take pictures! :-) I never want to ask my trainer, because she's always too busy kicking my butt! ;-)

I was glad it didn't bite me too:) I worried all day yesterday with the babies running around. I checked the garden all out and the yard as best I could before they all got here. JP was in a diaper AND tennis shoes. No more barefeet at Grandma's.

It might help! They also might come out blurry if it merely holds the shutter open longer. Have Mack try a couple each way. I'll fix 'em best I can, and we can at least have something to look at.... since FinaB can't manage to remember her camera when trail riding ;~D

Absolutely! My cousin got bit on the foot by a baby copperhead in her driveway several years ago. It was dusky dark and she stepped off the concrete onto the yard and it must've been snuggled up next to the concrete since it was warm. She didn't really know what had hit her at first, but saw the 2 little holes in the top of her foot and knew it was some kind of snake. Her husband killed it and they took it to the emergency room with them. They didn't want to believe her that it was a poisonous snake, but when her husband said "wait a minute, I've got it in the car" they shut up. It swelled something awful and finally got well but she's had some immune system problems and other stuff that she thinks are a residual effect of the venom. I've never heard about snake bites doing anything like that, but they could I guess. You just never know. Better safe than sorry!

...We use to catch those things all the time when we were kids...

Me too, but they were never this big and I've never seen them just crawling up out of the swamp and across the road like they do here. I've seen them in this place one other time and there were at least 20 or 30 of them. We were on our way to lunch and when we came back through, there were some guys stopped with a bucket picking them up. I guess they were having them for supper that night. I hear they're good boiled, but I'm not much on seafood so I've never eaten them. All I know is that the tails of the small ones make good fish bait. That's kinda my oppinion of Sushi too, in the South, we call it bait. ;o)

Nag! ;o)

Oh, I saw the pic of your Dad's new truck. Nice! You ought to be all set pretty soon then. I'd go ahead and get a spray in liner for his old truck too when you get it. It makes them last lots longer. I wanted to buy a new truck myself while they still had the GM employee discounts for everybody but we just never got around to it. We'll probably wait until they are sky high, THEN decide to buy. That's usually the way it happens.

Grooooss!! Didja notice where her bathing suit top was?! Looks like she's wearing a belly bag! I love the little boy's expression too. I think he and I feel about the same. ;o)

Well, haven't been on all week because I took Waylon back down to our cabin. It took 2 hours to get him in the trailer from the barn. I could have gotten him in if the barn ladies hadn't come out with a whip and a strap to put around his rear to push him in.

We finally hit the road and got to the cabin and I took a leisurely ride. It was great. My husband marked the trails for me and we had no trouble at all. The next day I spent an hour very patiently going closer and closer to the trailer. He would put his two front feet in and then just stand there!! With a soothing voice and a lot of "good boy"s he finally went in. I did it four times and quit for the night. The next day did it again and he walked right in. It was very rewarding. I was trying to explain to the girls at the barn that I could get him in but it started to rain and they thought they were helping....oh well, it turned out allright. They were shooting fireworks off on the 3rd and Waylon didn't like that at all. He snorted and walked in circles until they stopped. I can't wait to go again.

Will post some pictures when I go down again.

Can't miss out on that sales tax, you know.

What do you think of the new cigarette prices? I wish I could protest, but don't think it would do any good. We are the lepers of society.

Don'tcha just love it! I've had that kind of "help" too and it makes things SO much worse. I've spent the last 2 months trying to get my oldest horse to get in a different trailer, so I can sympathize. I've gotten him to the point now where he'll get in, go all the way to the front and let me close the partition. I haven't latched it yet. I could, but I don't want to just yet because I'm still working on a slow, controlled back out. When I get it consistently, I'll progress. Hang in there. You know your horse better than anybody and don't let them intimidate you into doing something that you know better. Congrats!

They're part of what got her into that shape to begin with. It's long sleeves and sunscreen for me boy!

Yep, I bushhogged with the tractor most of the weekend and I wore longsleeve cotton shirts.

You should check out the new Duramax Diesel trucks while they are on sale. You have wanted a new truck for a long time now. I really like the one we have, still not had time to drive it though.......

I can't believe you've got a new truck and haven't drove it yet! I think the sales are off now aren't they? I thought I heard that they were only through the 5th.
