*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Sorry about the PI. I've never broken out from it but it sounds uncomfortable

Are you sure you don't have the rash ON your eyeball? I think that can happen and it's not good. You might want to have somebody look at it to be sure. They can give you a steroid shot if it gets bad enough.

Yeah, and she's already had a bad accident with a former horse so her confidence is not that great anyways. That's why I thought Blade would be good for her, coz he's so calm natured. But I guess any horse can buck no matter how calm they usually are.

Too bad it had to happen so fast after getting him home. Sounds like she handled it pretty good tho. Has she much experience riding.?

We always took care of our snakes with bb guns, but we don't get big snakes... I really don't know if a .22 will take rat shot.

He could be a bit scared and unsure as well, which could cause him to do that. And more than likely he's testing her. But maybe things will calm down once they both get settled with one another.

That's exactly right. But if it's out of character for a horse, she might want to check her tack, make sure nothings pinching. More then likely tho, it was just a test, and only a test:)

She's had horses and been riding for almost as long as I have, just not that often and she's not quite as "daring" I guess. When you've done as many stupid things as I have and lived to tell about it, I guess you get a little more confident.

It doesn't matter how much money I spend or how good they are I kill vac cleaners. They die from exhaustion I think:')
I went out to the horses but didn't do anything. She has some new ones running the ground. There was one crazy one. He tried to get out the gate on me when I drove up and then took off somewhere else. I had the boys in the car and fussing because the lead ropes in the other car and here he come again. I thought he was going to jump the car but he skirted close and ran right into a nylon rope about three feet high. He struggled and then broke it and headed towards the mare pasture and then stopped by the round pen. The other loose horses ran past following. Horses kicking and screaming everywhere. Sarah Lee ran to the back corner and Okie met her there. Those two something else. It's almost like he reads her mind. She heads to him when scared and he starts toward her about the same time.
Anyway, It wasn't a safe environment for the kids to be out so I left. I'll go back in a little while and measure them, now that the boys are home and I can pop him with a lead rope if he charges again.

If he was OK and he was good under her with a minor correction, maybe it was just a test of new rider and new surroundings.

~But, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea for the long run to go to a saddler and have her saddle really checked and fitted to him to ensure it really is a good fit. It could be that he might do fine the first time the saddle was used but would be sore when contact was made ~again~ on a bad spot.

I remember that from a long bicycle trip. My butt felt fine until I sat down in the seat the ~second~ morning.

She's got ~intended~ loose horses where people are pulling in with cars and opening gates?

Yeah, he's bowed up with me a time or two out on the trail. One time when going up hill, one time going down, and one time when we jumped a good sized log and I had a none too gracefull landing on his back. In every instance, a scolding and quick pull around in a tight circle was all it took to put an end to it. He's just like any kid I guess and is going to test his limits.

Yeah. A few of her horses, during bankers hours when boarders not usually there. Old mares mostly that have never been a problem . She's not home today and would not have put up with this . The workers just "working" This one is wild and getting the rest of them worked up. I was wondering if this is a boarder horse that got out that they can't catch.

Does she have double gates where cars pull in? I certainly would... no matter how good they are.

Heh... the place sounds like it's often just mayhem is all. ;~D
