This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I thought he was very pretty:).
Good luck with his training. Sometimes the one's that are the hardest to work with, make the best horses. or so I've been told:)
Becky
Congrats! You are getting quite a herd there. I saw your post and picture of him. He looks like a good one. What happened to Sonny? Wasn't Bob going to ride him in endurance?
Scary. I've had troubles of rounds not firing... In my .22 pistol, for example, I think it barely hits the primer hard enough sometimes... but never a delayed 'hang fire' like that.
I'd get it to a gun smith before shooting it again for sure.
Only scare I've had on that level was a dud load in my .357. I fired, and it fired, but it was an odd sound. Something told me to stop and look. The bullet was in the barrel. It was a load with no powder in it, only primer. Another bullet behind it might have really blown up on me.
Yikes! Luckily I've never had a reaction to poison ivy, but I probably shouldn't speak too soon.
Define Chilly. 60s "chilly" ? ;-)
Your new horse is gorgeous by the way.
Oh dear lord! I'm glad that you didn't get hurt.
Pretty much under 60 is chilly to me. It's not chilly here. Hair says it's chilly there.

Yeah, that one made the rounds around here a few years back. Supposedly the baggie makes the flies think it's a hornet's nest and since hornets are a major fly predator, it scares them off. I don't know if it works or not, but it sure looks weird.
:) That's what they say isn't it. We will see I guess.
It's getting better.... temp updated to 61. And it's sunny but still feels cool. Not really warm enough to dry out the tall pasture grass so I can mow. It just stays wet from overnight dew.
That is really frightening about the shotgun. I know you are already, but please be careful :)
Hair, he goes back (at least on his dam's side, to the old California appaloosas. They had a lot of Arab blood in them.
I am really enjoying the pictures you are posting. It looks so nice there and sounds like you had so much fun.
Yeah, she picked him up this past Saturday. He's doing fine, but he did dump her the first day she tried to ride him at home. I don't know what the problem was, other than I never rode at home, or maybe her saddle felt different. She had no problem when she rode him on the trail ride with her saddle. She said she'd saddled him up and went to get on and he bowed up and went to hopping. She was totally unprepared since he'd been so mellow when she'd ridden him before and she landed flat of her butt. I sure hated it. The guy who trained him said he did that with him a few times when he first started him, but that if you let him walk around for a few steps after tightening the cinch but before getting on, he was fine. He never did it to me and I didn't walk him around, so I don't know. She said she caught him and went to get on again and felt him bow up again, but this time she smacked him on the shoulder with a crop and he settled down. I think he was just trying her. She'll have to watch him for a while to make sure he knows she's in control.
Yeah, yeah, rub it in! It's miserably hot here today and incredibly humid. You won't have a dry thread on in 2 minutes when you step outside.
I've never seen rat or snake shot in a 22, but did a quick search and I see they make it. It's not a very big bullet to fit very much shot into. I've seen and fired snakeshot chambered for .357.
That's too bad.... I hope she's a brave person, it's tough to get off on that foot with a new horse.... Confidence is hard won with me.
