Two points:

Your source is highly suspect. USA Today???

Tubes are pulled from patients who are really on life support. You know, respirators, LVADs, dialysis, etc. Those are patients who would die no matter how much you fed them. And the last thing to go is the intravenous infusion set, which keeps them hydrated. Starvation may not be painful, but dehydration is.

How about the DEPT of HEALTH and HUMAN SERVICES. Are they suspect, in your mind, as well?

Apparently you have never starved to death. When the body doesn't get nutrients, it starts consuming the internal organs. The body goes into convulsions. That is why they are giving her MORPHINE. Can't have the public seeing that. It might make them think this is wrong.
