Starvation may not be painful,

Apparently you have never starved to death. When the body doesn't get nutrients, it starts consuming the internal organs. The body goes into convulsions. That is why they are giving her MORPHINE. Can't have the public seeing that. It might make them think this is wrong.

Can you perform a cranio-rectal disengagement on yourself for a moment and note that I said may. In a normally healthy person hunger pangs are gone by the second day, and before the body has exhausted its fat store dehydration will kill them. In a severely debilitated person it will be more uncomfortable, but dehydration will generally kill them before the lysis of the organs begins. The pain is from the toxins building up in the organs as the kidneys shut down from lack of fluid. Hypovolemic shock may (note: may) ameliorate the pain to some degree. Is Terri suffering? YES. Have her care givers lied? YES. Is she brain dead? NO. Should she have been given at least hydration? YES. Is Michael a real ****? YES.

And no, I haven't ever starved to death. I just studied it in Nursing school.
