Aha. Thanks for the heads up. I went over the the Idol message board and did find a mention of that, but the posters were only speculating.
I think Vonzelle has a great voice, though she is not my favorite. I'm betting Anthony goes tonight. I think he is such a super kid, I hate to see it. But, I am with the popular opinion that we will see Bo and Carrie as the final two.
Who knows though, stranger things have happened...
Funny, I thought he was the only one worth voting for last night.
I saw that when I watched the show (Pacific time). Unbelievable! Simon has never liked Anthony for some reason. Maybe now we know why.
I think so, too.
I don't know the details, but Clay Aiken actually blazed that trail. If I'm not mistaken, the AI winner's contract (at least in the beginning) was for one year. Clay found a way to get out of it after the year was up. He signed with the hottest agency in the business. It's called simply The Firm. Kelly followed Clay's lead and signed with The Firm in January.
I don't know if this part was true in the first two seasons, but it's been reported that the AI contract even has the kids sign over rights to their own names. Which means they don't even own the rights to "brand" themselves and earn money off merchandise with their names and faces. That sucks big time, because ads and merchandising is where artists make money that their record companies can't snatch from them.
Simon likes Carey and is trying to protect her, IMHO. That was Anthony's best night which gives him a chance to last one more week. Bo is the only one who is safe tonight.
That's really funny, in a sad, sick sort of way.
You ever laugh out loud while blushing at the same time? Well, now I have...
I have to agree. I don't know what happened with Carrie on her 2nd song, but it was by far her worst performance of the competition. Simon tried to protect her by putting part of the blame on the band for the arrangement. But do they get to pick the arrangements? Or is the voice coaches? Or the performers? Rhetorical questions since I don't think this info has ever been made public.
Jonny, here's my take on last night, in order they performed.
Carrie: B and F
Bo: B and A
Vonzell: D and D
Anthony: A and A
Definitely an off night for Carrie. I didn't like either of her performances. Carrie hurt herself last night. The question is how badly.
I'll say it again about Bo. Appears to be a one-trick pony, but what he does, he does extremely well. The live audiences seem to absolutely adore him.
Vonzell was horrible last night. Frankly, I think she's had two horrible weeks in a row, and should have gone last week. But most people were tired of Scott by that point. Randy keeps trying to save her by claiming she makes the most difficult song choices. To which I say HORSE PUCKY!!! Randy is just making excuses for her horrible delivery, and is hoping the voter buy it. If I had my way, she'd be gone tonight.
Anthony: There's much to like about this kid. He's sweet, tries hard every week, and has natural talent. But he has much to learn about the craft of performing. He definitely should not go before Vonzell, but I think it's possible he may go tonight.
BTW, jonny, here's a photo of the latest National Enquirer cover. That's has JonBenet Ramsey on the cover. The resemblance between Carrie and JonBenet is spooky.
Here's the AOL poll results as of 2pm today.
They called Scott last week, but missed Lt. Dan the week before.
Bo - 52% - still on top an tough to beat.
Carrie - 34% - lost a little ground due to judge's slams.
Vonzelltasia - 11% - better than I thought
Anthony - 3% - Sang better but lost votes.
If these hold, it would mean Anthony gets the boot after one of his best nights. That would be a shame.
It just goes to show you that a big part of this competition is a "popularity contest."
My bet is still on Vonzell to go. (If we knew about the dog before the voting, I'd say otherwise.)
I know... which should make it easier to try and throw in the one-off witty comments, but I'm still rationing myself so I'll have some for future weeks. ;)
Funny that so many here (and the judges last night) are certain that Anthony sang the 2nd song better than Carrie. I think Carrie's performance was much better in that she showed feeling and emotion, as well as the fact that her voice is always more pleasing to listen to. You could actually believe she was singing the song to a real person. Anthony might have been technically OK, but the song was boring. I would like to know what the songwriters of the actual song who were in the audience thought. I bet they liked the first one better. Also Carrie's Dixie Chicks song almost made me turn on her. I thought it was a terrible rendition of a pitiful song from a treasonous group.
Feeling and emotion? A wind-up doll has more feeling and emotion than Carrie does.
In this instance, I disagree, BECAUSE, Simon said he blamed the band for the horrid arrangement. Had Anthony not performed the same song we would not have had a comparison. His arrangement was better, and I think it allowed for him to have a better rendition.
For me, and hopefully others, this showed that Simon was right about the band. This may have saved some votes for Carrie because voters could make a comparison and decide for themselves that had Carrie performed the other version, she would have done much better. jmo
Also, for what its worth, there have been times when one them has done a song and I had wished a different person would do the same song for exactly that reason. For a comparison. I wish they would have a week where all of the contestants did have to perform the same song.
I saw that when I watched the show (Pacific time). Unbelievable!
I keep seeing this repeated and I think what was meant was depth, heart and not the color of his skin. I think Simon considers Anthony to be, not ready. Which he isn't even though a lot of us like him, including myself.
I like Vonzell better than Fantasia. Course, that isn't saying much.
I agree Anthony is not ready. I don't agree he has no depth or heart -- no "soul." Of course, only Simon knows what he really meant. But it came across to me as a bigoted statement.
If I were a record prodcuer, out of the top 12, I'd sign Carrie, Vonzelle, and Anthony. None of them are ready, but those three have the talent to be decent development projects.
