So-called urban music (rap, hip-hop, R&B, etc.) is to this era what rock-and-roll was to the 1950's, Beatles-style music was to the 1960's, Disco was to the 1970's, and so on. So pop doesn't sell as well overall these days. Despite that, Kelly is holding her own against rap/hip-hop stuff from 50 Cent, Green Day, etc., and is outselling Jennifer Lopez' new album.
Right now, even though she's probably not yet an "A list" celebrity, Kelly is the #1 pop artist in the country. So far, success doesn't seem to have spoiled her, either. She had a tattoo of the Christian cross put on the inside of one of her wrists. She says it keeps her humble.
Is the show tonight going to be live?
Well, as I understand it, the show tonight will be half-live. They will used tapes of last night's performances, but Seacrest and the contestants will be on live to discuss whatever.
Would it be possible to post the call in numbers for the different contestants when they show on tonight's episode?
I (ahem) can't give up my Apprentice. ;)
There's only one song on it I don't like -- and my dislike is from an adult woman's point of view. It's called "I hate myself for losing you." The tune is OK and Kelly sings it beautifully, but the lyrics are terrible, in my opinion. Not dirty or anything, just so darkly harsh on a girl for losing a guy. We adults know that every relationship is a two-way street, but young girls may not fully realize that. Here's the lyrics so you can judge for yourself:
I woke up today
Woke up wide awake
In an empty bed
Staring at an empty room
I have myself to blame
For the state Im in today
And now dying doesnt seem so cruel
And oh, I dont know what to say
And I dont know anyway, anymore
I hate myself for losing you
Im seeing it all so clear
I hate myself for losing you
What do you do when you look in the mirror
And staring at you is why hes not here
You got what you deserved
Hope youre happy now
Cause every time I think of both of you
Its killing me inside
And now I dread each day
Knowing that I cant be saved
From the loneliness of living without you
And oh, I dont know what to
Not sure that Ill pull through
I wish you knew
I hate myself for losing you
And oh, I dont know what to do
Not sure that Ill pull through
I wish you knew, I wish you knew
And oh, I dont know what to say
And I dont know anyway, anymore
No, no
What do you say, when everything you said
Is the reason why he left you in the end
How do you cry when every day you said
Dont ever bring him back again
Unless you're in the Pacific time zone, my posting the numbers wouldn't do you any good. What you might consider doing is checking the www.idolonfox.com website for the numbers around 6:00pm eastern time.
"They will used tapes of last night's performances,"
Aha! I hadn't heard that. Good, cause we had some commotion going on here last night so I missed most of them.
But I will say that Jessica Sierra OWNED that "Total eclipse of the heart" song. I was feeling very bad for her to not get voted on for that, so good for her if they use last night's acts again. I haven't really liked her at all, really up until now, but she dominated.
Appearance and attitude aside, I think the best true vocalists on the show (not in any order) are Carrie, Bo, Scott, and Jessica. If it were up to me, Nadia would round out the top 5 although she showcased nothing but her vocal limitations last night. And some hairdresser talked her into a hideous mohawk hairstyle that took away from her best asset -- her looks.
I don't like those lyrics either. You're right, they are dark and desperate.
Several of you have expressed interest in House and Nashville Star and have asked if there are live threads for either show. To the best of my knowledge (and searching ability) I dont believe that there are. But if anyone wants to start threads for these shows, I encourage you to do so.
Dark, desperate and degrading to young women. Of course, it's angelic compared to some of the stuff in the "urban music" genre.
So, let's see who can improve on last night's performance -- oh, that's right, this is last night's performance. Never mind. [snicker]
What a jip! I'll watch it anyway--any excuse to look at Carrie :)
I read last night's postings and I see that people didn't think much of Anthony's performance, but I like it.
They are not re-singing....just showing last nights....shucks
They're not re-singing, but the judges are re-judging--what's up with that?
I don't know...I guess this is the fair way to do it...
Goshamighty! Carrie sounds even better tonight than last night.
My eldest daughter and Carrie could be twins.
