That's really a nice cover. Her face will sell CD's even to those who've never heard her sing.

That would have been pretty. But maybe they are going for a more sultry look? Or at least more serious anyway?

Wow, that bottom pic is really stunning. Something like that should go on a full CD. That's just beautiful.

For some reason I can't get that link to work. I think I need to do some computer tweaking, but I have no idea of what to do. LOL!

I'll be back later after I try a few things!

What happens when you try to use it? You used the other yousendit.com links, right? Did they work for you?

I only got one of the others to work. For some reason musicmatch (which I never use) tries to open it and it won't work.

Is there a way to get another player to open it?

I'm also having trouble with MSN messenger not signing in.

I've run all kinds of scans and nothing comes up.

Just FYI. Some news from the recording industry. Hits Daily Double is the industry organization that tracks gross sales numbers weekly -- gross meaning it doesn't split albums by genre, but combines them all on one chart. It feeds the gross data into the more detailed Billboard and other tracking orgs.

This week's HDD update shows that rock is making a big comeback. For the 5th week in a row, a rock artist has topped the charts. First came Bruce Springsteen, then Nine Inch Nails, then the Dave Matthews Band (#7 this week), who handed off to System of a Down, and now comes the latest recipient of the Rock’s Not Dead trophy, Audioslave.

Bo is coming into the industry at a good time for him.

In addition, Kelly Clarkson's decidedly light rock album "Breakaway" is still in the top 20 after six months on the charts. (Kelly's staying power in the top 10 and top 20 has been remarkable.) In fact, this week she had an 11% increase in sales over last week -- and even beat the AI 4 cast album, which saw a 34% decrease in sales over last. It's in 19th, after dropping like a stone from its high of 7th on the HDD charts. So far, it's the weakest selling AI cast album of the four seasons to date.

Here's the link to the HDD chart for those who may want to see for themselves.

This next bit of news is something I haven't researched personally, since I don't know where on Amazon to find the info. However, reports on the AI forum are that the AI producers are going to release both Carrie's and Bo's versions of the songs they were given to sing last Tuesday. To the best of my recollection, this is a first. Usually only the winner releases those songs.

For season 1, Kelly definitely was the only one to release "A Moment Like This" (which became a big hit). In season 2, I don't remember what Ruben's winner song was, but Clay released his version of "Bridge Over Troubled Water," and it was a hit. In season 3, Fantasia released the winner's song, which was forgettable and was not as big a hit as Kelly's and Clay's first singles. Diana DeGarmo, the 2nd place contestant last year, didn't even get a contract, let alone a chance to release the same single Fantasia did.

In fact, it's sort of odd that the AI producers are doing this now, because the two records by Carrie and Bo will be competing against one another. It doesn't seem particularly fair to either Carrie or Bo, and it doesn't seem to suggest the AI producers have all that much faith in Carrie.

However, the AI producers are all about making the quickest possible buck off each current season. They've seen Kelly's amazing success with the light rock "Breakaway," and they certainly track trends in the industry closer than I do. So they know rock is hot again. Maybe they want to take advantage of that by making the most of Bo while they can -- before he eventually follows Clay's and Kelly's lead and moves on to a more fair contract elsewhere.

Anyway, word on the AI boards is that Bo's version is out-stripping the pre-sales orders for Carrie's version on Amazon.com. I have no way to know for certain if this is true, and time will tell.

If you'd like, I'll keep you updated on their sales progress since I follow the various charts.

Bo is coming into the industry at a good time for him.

Agreed.

In addition, Kelly Clarkson's decidedly light rock album "Breakaway" is still in the top 20 after six months on the charts. (Kelly's staying power in the top 10 and top 20 has been remarkable.)

It definitely is a rock album. Only Breakaway is an adult contemporary song, really, and is almost out of place.

For season 1, Kelly definitely was the only one to release "A Moment Like This" (which became a big hit).

They planned to have Justin release a single but changed their mind because they didn't think people would buy singles in general (Clay and Ruben showed they would if it was done the right way).

In season 2, I don't remember what Ruben's winner song was,

It was "Flying Without Wings"-- yet another recycled song from the people at AI. It was a UK tune by a group called Westlife.

but Clay released his version of "Bridge Over Troubled Water," and it was a hit.

"This Is The Night" was the "new" song on that CD single, the one AI wanted him to make a big hit (rather than a Simon and Garfunkel song), but the judges thought it sucked, and Clay sang the crap out of BOTW. The guy who co-wrote it actually co-wrote a better song for Clay-- his hit single "Invisible," which makes it funny that they chose "This Is The Night."

In season 3, Fantasia released the winner's song, which was forgettable and was not as big a hit as Kelly's and Clay's first singles. Diana DeGarmo, the 2nd place contestant last year, didn't even get a contract, let alone a chance to release the same single Fantasia did.

They had the contestants in Season 3 sing "I Believe" and "Dreams" the Tuesday night before the results show. They decided to make "I Believe" the single because Tamyra Gray wrote it and they thought that made it special, which became obvious, and when Diana was told she'd sing it first Wednesday night, she knew instantly that she'd lost, because they wouldn't have her sing it then and sing it at the end, too, so, therefore, Fantasia would sing it last.

Here are the first week sales figures for each single. Diana was hurt because Fantasia's single was delayed for like two weeks and so Diana's was delayed. Diana was signed by BMG/Sony via RCA, but they didn't really do anything with her (they even used old back-up tracks from the 70s for "Don't Cry Out Loud"). Disney has done more to promote her than RCA and Clive Davis. You can read more about how poor RCA has done with here here.

In fact, it's sort of odd that the AI producers are doing this now, because the two records by Carrie and Bo will be competing against one another. It doesn't seem particularly fair to either Carrie or Bo, and it doesn't seem to suggest the AI producers have all that much faith in Carrie.

Not really. Clay and Ruben battled it out and both succeeded from the attention. Their records will be different, too. They have decided to make Carrie as Country as a hayseed. Look at the CD single cover. She looks like she's dressed for chores on the farm.

Anyway, word on the AI boards is that Bo's version is out-stripping the pre-sales orders for Carrie's version on Amazon.com. I have no way to know for certain if this is true, and time will tell.

Diana's pre-sales outnumbered Fantasia's, but that didn't hold as a trend, BTW.

Speaking of Diana and Fantasia, the #3, Jasmine Trias, has an album coming out July 12th. She's with Clockwork Entertainment and will co-star as a singer and drummer in "All Girl Band." She got an earlier acting gig on "North Shore.

You can listen to a song of hers here.

These pics are from a Valentine's Day event at Carrie's sorority.

What I find neat is that I think even without AI, you'd look at them and say, "What celebrity is that at that event with those regular people?" It's weird. She has a real presence about her. She stands out as someone special easily. AI recognized that star quality instantly, but I didn't really appreciate it until looking at these pictures back when she was just regular Carrie, before the professional hair stylists and makeup artists and fashion experts. Plain old pre-AI Carrie could walk down a sidewalk full of people and be noticed.

Hi, Wolfstar—great post!

rock is making a big comeback … Bo is coming into the industry at a good time for him.

You’re right. Just flipping through the radio, I’ve noticed that several stations—stations that have been devoted to one type of music for decades, usually Country or Easy Listening—are switching to Classic/Current Rock or 80’s Pop. There’s also been a sudden nostalgia for 80’s rock bands like Motley Crüe, White Snake, Guns N’ Roses, etc. Just last week, Def Leppard performed live on the Today Show before an appreciative audience. I haven’t seen those guys in years—they sounded great!

And as much as I detest the man, I have to admit that Bruce Springsteen’s newest single “Devils & Dust” is one of his best songs. It’s being played ad nauseum on the rock stations, but I never get tired of hearing it.

Even the Rolling Stones, God bless ‘em, are going back on tour!

The public is obviously hungry for Rock again. This combined with his success and exposure on AI might just provide Bo with the “perfect storm” he needs to begin a lasting career.

Now if only Van Halen would get their act together … :-D

LOL! That's true.

Are those real CD covers in post #10,275 or are they just photoshopped? I'd prefer either one of those to the "farm girl" look, especially the one with Carrie in profile against a black background.
